You might want to consider that both the corporate, and the govt sectors use this sort of emotional manipulation regularly. In military jargon, it's referred to as "propaganda". The very "fear terms" you're quoting (extremists, terrorist), were designed to elicit a strong emotional reaction. It's freakin Africa man.....it's where slavery came from!! Just sayin...
