Wow, it won the trophy too. That's a serious investment. I wonder how the ride is.

Question: How do I decipher the door tag information on my Mercury?

I have the following:
BRK: 3
INT TR: J2
TP/PS: /P
R: 6
Axle: C8
TR: H
SPR: BARR
lFBlP: BO5

Any ideas what these mean?

Stuff? You mean like black out windows, brush guard, push bumpers, spot lights, steel rims?

I may go with a CB radio if I can find it, but probably not. Somewhere I have an old SSB model from the 70's that used to really peg the meters. :wink05:

I have a CB in all my cars. However the wife freaked out and I had to just give her a 40CH handheld cobra for her stupid Forrester. She did not like antennas.
But I think you did good on your purchase. Cars are machines and they wear out. If you can pick up one for cheap, good. After all you have to be a moron to spend more on add-on's than the car is actually worth. Like 2K in wheels on a car worth 1200.00 or tune kits on 5 year old subarus. That money should be used on hookers, not cars.

Good points about the spending on extras. They'll kill you. In fact, my "new" car just kicked my five year old Subie out of the garage, despite being seven years older than the Subie. Lol. We'll have to see how long that works out with the wife. HAHAHAHAHA.

PM me if you need any info/help/whatever.

The RAS (rear air suspension) WILL go bad.

Swap to springs. It'll cost $100

If you don't know the door keypad code, I can tell you how to find it in 30 seconds or less.

If you come back to the headlights on, and/or the domelight on, or randomly come back to a dead battery, it's the door keypad.

You have a 2.73 rear axle ratio. Zero performance, but 25+ MPG on highway.

I've owned 11 or 12 (lost count) panther platform vehicles, and have worked on quite a few, so I know them inside and out .

The rear fascia/tail lights are the same through 2011, so you can swap it out.

(Here's an 06+ rear on my '98)

I'm also not a huge chrome fan, so I painted the grille surround body color and the insides black....
