Interesting. I don't have anyone coming up to me and calling me 'Manager Parks'.... I don't have anyone coming up to my employees and calling them 'consultant so and so' or 'salesman such and whatnot'.. I understand the intent, but I disagree with the message. You're using a title, which infers a difference between those that use it. Sir,Ma'am, Mr. last name, etc are all acceptable. I don't see a reason to bring in someones occupation into the equation. First thing you do when you meet someone is introduce yourself, if they say their name, you use it. No need to add whatever you feel is necessary to the beginning or the end of it. *reaches out to shake hands* Bob : I'm bob *shakes hands* Jim : I'm Jim, nice to meet you. Bob : Nice to meet you too officer Jim Jim : ..... Just my $1.05 (2 cents, adjusted for inflation) If he is an officer in uniform, the respectful thing would be to call him officer. But i come from a deep family line of military, sir, maam, sgt ect. to each his own. Precisely my point. Thank you.

I do the same with all people I don't know, but if you tell me your name over a handshake, I'm using your name, where appropriate. Everyone is raised different. I understand your points, and don't necessarily disagree with them, I just think that respect is an equal opportunity thing, I'm not gonna treat one person with reverence merely because of their occupation, except maybe for an astronaut, cuz that shit is just cool. I just don't personally see the reason to call Joe Friendly 'Officer Friendly', when he introduces himself as Joe, or as 'Mr. Friendly'. I will usually offer to buy a coffee or something though, although I do that for most people. Come to think of it, I do remember most of the officers that I got along with, introduced themselves as 'Joe Smith, Such and such PD', whereas the ones that rubbed me the wrong way introduced themselves as 'officer smith'... Maybe because the first was a good person who happened to be a cop, whereas the second implied that his title defined who he is/was... ? Dunno. Wow. I need sleep. I'm debating the semantics of sir/ma'am. ugh. Sorry for going off topic. Bottom line. We all do what we feel comfortable with.

Just my $1.05 (2 cents, adjusted for inflation) when you actually achieve something to earn the title, not just walk into it by accident.. it does carry some meaning to it... I don't demand being called a doc, but it's something I get called a lot and I don't bat an eye if I'm called it or not.. it's not wrong to show some deference to somebody who has earned the title... it's outright dumb to call job positions as a title... but you probably would never understand... so I'll leave it at that...

Josh aka general nonsense got annoyed and has drifted away after postin an "I'm out of here". When I started this I checked his profile and he has visited after he left but hasn't posted. He kinda had a thing against 15 cent .22LR ammo and couldn't help himself when it came to replying - I know how he feels!
