It won't happen. The effects will be small and gradual enough that in the end, nobody will care....

Ubah Aden, 40, a Seattle home health worker who says she now earns $10.95 an hour, is looking forward to the way a higher wage will help her support her three children. But she also likes the idea of Seattle setting an example for the rest of the nation.
"If this passes, then it will pave the way for other cities and states. I really think so" Aden said.
She said she and her three kids are living with her brother because she can't afford an apartment of her own even though she works full time. "This will make changes to myself and also a lot of other people in my shoes."
HA, your happy meals you shove down your kids' throats will probably double in price, milk will be 4 bucks a gallon, and that apartment you want will go up another 4oo bucks a month.
Liberals do it to themselves everytime, I have no reason to visit this city any longer.

It's Seattle... the rich people have almost driven all the poor people out. Except for those lucky few that will be able to earn just enough to live in Seattle to service their masters. The homeless are still there to keep the lower class motivated.

I can't even imagine what traffic will turn into with everyone commuting in and living way outside the city. What idiots

If this "fungus epidemic" continues killing the coffee crops and drives the price up 50%, that's when the real rioting will begin.

It's not happening over night, so we won't really notice. I'm still glad to not live in the area, going to Ft Lewis is too far North for me.

The prices in Seattle probably won't skyrocket... if they did people would just go to the suburbs. More will likely just go out of business.
And things for Seattle workers will be great for a while. And the economies in the suburbs will boom. Until the minimum wage goes up statewide anyway. Seattle workers will be making a pretty good wage and will be able to afford all kinds of things. And that will be used to support raising it statewide because they can't seem to grasp why those few people are doing so well. Then when it goes statewide, after a short time prices will rise, pay will rise.... and those making minimum wage will still be a the bottom. That's kind of the definition of inflation. Might be good for the towns across the border in Oregon and Idaho, but those will probably raise their prices too in order to take advantage of the situation.

It's not all bad. I'm definitely looking forward to the end of tipping at restaurants.

If I owned a business in Seattle that has a bunch of minimum wage employees, I'd raise prices effective the day the minimum wage rates went up... might even do it before.... Then I'd start looking for another city to relocate my business. I'd also put up signs stating why the prices went up. I wouldn't eat that cost.
What is a bigger issue is folks currently making above minimum wage now... $15 they will demand a raise, and then the folks making $20 an hour will want a raise and so on and so forth.
I expect most fast food restaurants in Seattle to either raise prices or close. Sams club.... gone, Costco, Seahawks and Mariners tickets will go up, prices at the malls will go up, movie ticket, etc. Construction labor costs within Seattle will jump. The suburbs will benefit most from this as businesses move out of Seattle or the prices go up . The good news is rent will go down in Seattle as businesses leave. Long term 5 - 10 years it won't matter, but in the short term in a Just-recovering-economy not a good thing for Seattle.
And that doesn't include the increased cost of Obama Care on Business. Thank God I'm the only employee of my business.

They fucked up part is this will eliminate jobs for youth and unskilled laborers. For $15/hr people will complete for jobs and the poor performers that in the past were kept on staff at minimum will be pushed out in favor of harder working people. Business will no longer be able to reward hard workers with a raise and a bonus. Instead the option will be work hard or be fired, and say goodbye to overtime.
