"Lawn jockeys" are still very common in the American South, at least in the states I've visited (Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississipi). I remember spending summers as a child in SE Missouri and it seemed like every yard had one--except for my grandmother's yard. She was an expat Canadian and found "lawn jockeys" offencive, as do I.

Id have to guess your "resto" may have killed a good part of its value. But if your not selling it it doesnt make any difference. I would keep it as it was originially for skin color/race, its still a historical piece.

The are allot of concrete models and now plastic models. Needless to say, 100+ year old pot metal would bet totally gone if not repainted evert couple years. Because these are outside all the time I just did a strip & refinish. I used POR-15 and sealed the metal prior to repainting so I probably will never have to worry about corrosion again. I thoroughly doubt I hurt the value in the least bit.

Used to dress ours up for holidays, Bunny Ears, Pilgrim, Pumpkin Head, Hunter Orange during the season, Santa Suit.. Neighbors had an issue with it so we stuck a 40' Totem Pole behind it,,,They bitched about that more than the lawn jockey after that..Guess the Hated Native Americans more than racists...Go Figure

Yeah, but in the states you mentioned half the population still doesn't realize that the Civil War is over.
