I'm thinking about signing up for one of these. Probably won't get one for a year or so but that's OK.

Lots of reading inside their website.

I'm a m/c guy and always have been. This is different, though.

You big truck owners might laugh it off, so I guess it wouldn't be for you.

I'd love to drive one, but buying any new vehicle is OOTQ.

Besides, if I go reverse trike, I want this look (my design based on a Gazelle kit car):

As Drew would say " Those two cars are gayer than two boys fucking. "

Nut-less in Seattle - a movie about a man and his androgynous vehicular transportation device.

While retro is cool, I like all the wiz-bang goodies the Elio comes with.
Air - p/w - heater

Hey, I'm getting older and I'm in it for the creature comforts now.

Yep. Roll cage and airbags or not - you will get pushed into bad situations in a vehicle that small/light.

Also - they have no proof of concept...look at all the language on the website: "assuming we hit the 84 MPG target..." I have "pre-ordered" two small (under $100 each) consumer electronic items and both of them have experienced substantial delays...I suspect this vehicle will be vaporware - or it might show up in 2 years...no one knows.

Beyond that, you can get 1/2 to nearly 2/3 of that mileage in a decently size car that can take a passenger (or 4)...although, I was impressed with the price point (under $7,000!). With that said, I'm not doing any car buying (new or used) for at least 12 months - if not 36 months. With GoogleX self-driving cars around the corner and Telsa gearing up for a massive battery factory which will substantially lower the cost of their cars, the personal transportation marketplace is in for a huge disruption.

I find their text about designing for a "new way of getting around" to be a little ridiculous when the real change-makers in this field are trying to serve the broader market (4+ passenger vehicles), not some tiny fraction of the market that has no passengers and no luggage/cargo.

But the real deal breaker is the fact that Pep Boys is their authorized service center (the equivalent of a "dealership" service option).

For Gods sake, at least get a Morgan - fucking cool factor in a 3 wheeler, and solid appreciating resale value.

Not a sniveling little eco mobile.

Bargain Prius with moar depreciation from new - like going down the Olympic ski jump hill depreciation.
