I'll donate as well, PM me.
Meis is getting married in a couple of weeks. One of the news sites posted a link to his wedding registries (Target and Crate & Barrel. Alas, no Cabela's...) I'll dig up the link in case anyone would like to contribute. Perhaps it would be a nice way and very subtle way to get he and the soon-to-be missus started.

I hope you are being sarcastic. This is a good thing, They are starting to recognize that the person is the problem, not the tool.

Here's an article that will surely be used by the antis.. "At the Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Phoenix, he filled out the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’s Form 4473, checking “no” on question “11f,” which asked whether he had ever been “adjudicated mentally defective” or committed to a mental institution. “I make no excuses for it,” he says. “I checked the box that said no and that was a lie.” That one question should have disqualified him, but he signed the form, handed it to the clerk at the sporting-goods store, “and he called up wherever he called up, and it came back ‘proceed with sale.’ I walked out with the rifle in tow after about 20 minutes. Plus a box of ammunition.” Hokanson’s name should have been fed into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System when he was in California. If it had been and the system worked, he should have been flagged in Arizona. " http://news.yahoo.com/don-t-ever-let-buy-gun-again-094500605--politics.html

This patchwork of reporting by each state is one of the prices we pay for state's rights. The government has been working on it for years --- if you want to read more go here: http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=tp&tid=49Obama also signed an executive order relating to this after Newtown, but from what I can see it is redundant. Both Virginia and Washington have done the most work automatically connecting court records relating to mental health to NICS. (in fact you can see Virginia's work in the 2013 request at that link). I don't believe there is a national scorecard showing compliance and how automated the systems are. But even if it was all automated, laws that require only those involuntarily committed are scratching the surface of the people who are seriously troubled. I've you been sent for evaluation, that isn't disqualifying. Being involuntarily committed means you are locked up until you are "better" which could be never so most states have a very high bar for that. I'm not a psychiatrist so I don't know what the next definition below that should be, but with each of these shootings you hear about the history, that they're under treatment, and then you think "yeah that guy shouldn't have a gun".
