So I had to work till 11 then drive home 45 minutes, shit, shower, shave, feed the animals and go back to base for my reserve weekend at 7. I'm not complaining cause I enjoy the reserves, but on weekends like this it sure helps to have very few interruptions in the schedule. Sidebar, my goat likes to eat the wireless fence I have in place for some reason. I get home and am only greeted by one dog, but hear howling in the woods. Probably a coyote, kinda odd, I have not heard them in months. I grab my 30-30 and spotlight (thanks Chevytruckman) and head towards the sound. It sounds real close, but I am still missing a dog. On the way I notice the cord to my fence has been chewed in half. God damn goat is starting to piss me off. I figure my husky is in the woods trying to play with a coyote because the fence is down. I walk that way and see something take off into the woods. Then Max comes out of the woods with a nose full of porcupine quills. Great. I have to wake up in 5 hours, just what I fuckin need. I call the all night Vet in Olympia just to see what this may cost. She says, well the exam is 80 then we have to sedate him. I'm not sure how much it will cost. What exam? he has quills in his damn nose. Exam has already been done. What wold my dad do? He would get some pliers, and start yankin. This is taking all night. I can usually get a few out when he says enough and takes off. I should also note, he has seizures, and I damn sure don't want to induce one. So its one at a time, I am about halfway done as I write this. He calms down and comes back after a few minutes. This sucks ass, I hate inflicking pain on my buddy, but it has to be done. Wish me luck.

Two hours later, I am done. None broke off, but I think there are a few in his paws I can't see. He was getting real irritated towards the last few. A little tip I learned, cover their eyes if you can, they flinch less. I counted thirty, poor guy. I will have to take him in tomorrow to make sure I got them all.

Wonder if he learned anything from his adventure? Anyone ever seen homeward bound the incredible journey?

Kinda late now, but vinegar will soften the quills and make it easier to pull out.
