Middle of the night, getting up to go to the bathroom, next thing I know I'm lying on the bedroom carpet, face down, and can't get up. Can't even get up to my hands and knees to crawl. And I can't talk - make cow sounds, sure, but no words. Except that the extreme weakness was on both sides, I thought I'd had a stroke and might live for the foreseeable future mimicking the Alligator Boy at Marsh's Museum. Turned out, lucky for me, to be a blood glucose of 30 (my lowest prior was a paltry 64), but we didn't know that when TriMed took me to Valley Medical's ER. The fire paramedic who arrived first had me drink at least 16oz of Fruitables juice boxes that I keep next to the bed, and I was back in safe territory (60s) by the time I was checked into the ER. Even got some of my speech back during that hour. Still, they kept me overnight to make sure cardiac enzymes and so forth were good, got a head scan, and a chest xray, . . . you might call it a sampler plate of procedures. Anyway, I'm back pulling my WaGuns shift and at least as good (mobile and witty) as I was last week. Now we have to figure out why it happened. I'd been 'rationing' the last of my test strips since my plan doesn't cover the ones that go with my meter, but I actually had a piece of cake the night before, so my blood sugar should have been higher than usual, not lower. 'Tis a mystery . . . .

Lots of things can jack with your BG levels.
I had a beer last Sunday. Spiked my BG to 170, then 2 hours later I was at 82. 1st beer I've had since getting diagnosed. Didn't expect that big a swing and it took me by surprise.
What meter do you have? I have a couple extra boxes of Freestyle Insulinx strips I would be willing to toss your way if that's what you're using. I also have a few different meters I've tried over the last year or so. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Ask your doc for a prescription of glucagon injection kit...it may save your life next time around... looks like the epinephrine kits
Let me see if I have any strips from my old meter, got a new one last month and I think I had at least 50 strips left if I can find it..
You know you could have died right? Glad you didn't, but get that glucagon ASAP for emergencies

^ Great support, folks. You guys are awesome.
Doc, I'm glad you're still with us! You still owe us a range report with that bullpup Papoose, so you have to take care of yourself. It's an obligation.

I keep those tiny little tubes of cake frosting handy for such occasions, easy to get into your mouth (squeeze/suck).
Glad you're doing ok.

You need to keep a glucagon injection kit at home.
Edit: oh the doc already yelled. Good. Shit works fast as hell.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/All-in-One-Bl ... m/10818578new tester with strips.... no batteries to worry about, when you run out of strips...throw it away and start fresh. and the canisters are reusable for small parts storage
