I do not use movies as the basis of fact... I do use movies as a push to learn more about a subject.... and outbreak was pretty Damn inaccurate....and not even that entertaining.....

Same goes for world war z...

I'm not a cryptopathologist... just someone who is aware of potential threats and dangers...

And yes...I know how remote the possibility of it mutating, is.. that however does not mean it can't. ..and the fact that British researchers proved it was airborne and we're concerned that it could become airborne between humans is enough of a justification for me to be concerned...

with the increase in infections...comes multiple mutations...of every shape and form... some making it less virulent to humans...some more...some indifferent...

Viruses and bacteria survive by adaptation...just as all life does...

so...the more people that are infected...the higher likelihood that the mutations needed to occur to make it airborne, happen..

Whether it's millions or tens of millions of iterations....it's still possible. .

It will happen about the same time pigs evolve wings and start flying. There's very little historical precedent for a virus to change its attack vector not to mention the virus would have to start concentrating in the lungs as opposed to the blood and liver like it currently does. The way it transmits now is so efficient there is no environmental pressure for it to evolve into an airborne virus.

Kinda like pigs evolving wings.

Sorry, haven't been following this thread. So...yes, Ebola is vicious, yes, Ebola is terrifying, but it is not airborne and requires direct patient contact with the transference of blood or body fluids directly from the infected and actively ill patient (read: not a patient in the incubation period) to a healthy individual with contact with mucous membranes and/or open sores to successfully transmit itself from one individual to another. The physicians infected with Ebola who were flown to the States for treatment were not treating known Ebola patients at the time of their infection and did not have the PPE donned that would have prevented their being infected.

To address the current case in Texas: this is ONE case, in ONE individual. The CDC is all over this like the proverbial white on rice. Yes, several balls were dropped (among them, the patient being seen by a provider, given antibiotics despite having given the provider his travel history, and sent home two days before being transported by ambulance to the ED), but even so, I do not expect to see more than a handful (<5) of new cases spring up, if that. I would personally feel very comfortable providing known Ebola patient with direct patient care, if called upon to do so. Ebola kills via rapid dehydration and the onset of opportunistic infections; here in the United States, we have both the means to isolate the patient and to keep him or her hydrated and provide prophylactic treatment to ward off opportunistic infection(s) until the patient is able to muster an immune response strong enough to destroy the virus.

Ebola is not something that keeps me awake at night; EV-D68 and RSV are far more infectious (and in the case of RSV, far more lethal), and those diseases are what I worry about.

Infosmores says its true so it must be true. I can't believe people actually follow this blabbering idiot.

Now some enterprising soul can sell plastic sheeting and duct tape as emergency Ebola barrier.

For me it is not about Ebola, it is about the absolute piss poor job the government does at keeping people out of our country that should not be here. It is also about the shit job that the hospital did. It is being reported that the hospital was not the ones to call the CDC about this. They guys friend did. What the fuck? I would be surprised if someone get fired over this, but many heads should roll. (pun intended since Texas borders Oklahoma) If this were a serious infection, we would all be in trouble. Thank god it is not.

You are mistaken.. Modern western society is INVINCIBLE to infectious disease. We have the internet, smart phones, and hospitals with lots of gadgets that go beep. Nothing can touch us :party1:

That they have nothing in common with Ebola and spread under different circumstances.

You keep believing that kf7mjf. So the news today said that the person infected in Dallas had contact with as many as 100 people now while infectious. They have quarantined the family in their apartment, surrounded by neighbors. Seem some of the people were non compliant and police were deployed to "maintain order and compliance" with the quarantine. The clean up and disinfection was handled by an outside contractor company (read as Mexicans with mops) and they only handle HIV stuff before, HIV is not even in the same class as Ebola which is a level 4 biohazard. I actually have a degree (and not some certificate from the diploma mills one sees on line) in the bio sciences and have worked in microbio labs before. The officials at the news briefing were not exactly candid and refused to answer numerous questions for several reporters. Standard government response, ignore it at first, then feed public BS and tell them not to panic, then totally mismanage it. The whole of the affected region should have been shut off as far as incoming travel, we have done so to other nations for more idiotic reasons (Cuba for instance). So far I have seen nothing but mismanagement, excuses and poor response by the people in charge. Hope we dodge the bullet but it is sheer ignorance and arrogance to say it can't get out of hand and fast.

BTW, sorry for starting a new thread yesterday, did not know about this one.
