Ah, mental note . . . we need to revisit the moderator selection process. OK, carry on.

Yep, that's what happens when you let a guy ply you with whiskey, cheap cigars, and bacon cake.

Bam, you got a rogue moderator - for life.

I've seen the contract, and the lewd photos.

Ironclad, that.

I hear that the Muslims are developing a strain of Ebola that infects bacon, so they can kill off infidels.

No problem, no way it could possibly spread, I mean it's not aireal transmit yet, nothing to worry about. :facepalm2:

You keep believing that kf7mjf. So the news today said that the person infected in Dallas had contact with as many as 100 people now while infectious. They have quarantined the family in their apartment, surrounded by neighbors. Seem some of the people were non compliant and police were deployed to "maintain order and compliance" with the quarantine. The clean up and disinfection was handled by an outside contractor company (read as Mexicans with mops) and they only handle HIV stuff before, HIV is not even in the same class as Ebola which is a level 4 biohazard. I actually have a degree (and not some certificate from the diploma mills one sees on line) in the bio sciences and have worked in microbio labs before. The officials at the news briefing were not exactly candid and refused to answer numerous questions for several reporters. Standard government response, ignore it at first, then feed public BS and tell them not to panic, then totally mismanage it. The whole of the affected region should have been shut off as far as incoming travel, we have done so to other nations for more idiotic reasons (Cuba for instance). So far I have seen nothing but mismanagement, excuses and poor response by the people in charge. Hope we dodge the bullet but it is sheer ignorance and arrogance to say it can't get out of hand and fast.

BTW, sorry for starting a new thread yesterday, did not know about this one.

Let's look into this then.
Spanish Flu. 1918-20, and killed about 3-5% of the world's population. A strain of H1N1, it likely spread and mutated amoong the military forces of Europe, and spread across the globe as those men traveled and infected others. It is believed that the malnutrition and poor health of some soldiers, as well as a civilian population in parts of Europe that had also suffered the privation of war enabled the Spanish Flu to take hold and spread. Remember this took place before there was effective flu vaccination, and took hold in enormous populations of highly mobile persons who were drawn from many parts of the world. In other words, the flu first took hold and spread in a very large, weakened population which was in turn allowed to travel the globe back to the nations from which they came. Flu is airborne and travels easily from person to person. The circumstances that permitted the initial transmission of Spanish Flu are not present with Ebola. Furthermore, Ebola is rapidly contained by isolating the victims and taking certain precautions when working with them. Ebola is not transmitted like Spanish Flu, nor does the current outbreak resemble the circumstances and methods in which the Spanish Flu was initially spread around the world. The only thing in common is it's infectious nature and the ease of global travel.

Black Death. The Black Death is thought to have been introduced to Europe by Mongol invaders. The outbreaks spread through poor sanitation, and by severe lack of medical understanding of disease vectors and hygiene. In this, we can see similarities with the Ebola outbreaks in Africa. However, unlike Ebola, Black Death was carried by ubiquitous pests of the era, which were not contained due to the fact nobody knew what spread the disease. Ebola's transmission is understood, and while African nations may have problems, due to cultural issues and poor infrastructure, experiencing a similar outbreak size in an educated or industrialized nation is highly unlikely.

So, while we can see that major disease epidemics often share certain common features (poor sanitation, poor response to infection, large vulnerable populations), it is hard to claim that Ebola in the United States has anything at all in common with the circumstances around the Spanish Flu or the Black Death.

It started with an E and you fell for it. If it was cake you wouldn't be worried about a little Ebola/Ecoli

They say avoiding needless handling of infected corpses will help prevent the spread of Ebola.

But what about all the necrophiliacs out there? Nobody asks how this affects THEM.

Ok, you get the AK, but only if I get my Sig Russian first. (my son gets that one) My daughter wants the 91/30 with bayonet for its reach-ability.
