Dallas Deputy rushed to hospital with ebola like symptoms... was one of first officers to enter the apartment of the original sick man.....plus one more is thought to have contracted it....

So... did the deputy pick his nose?

Lots of talk of third world crap hole and no sanitation, that's why Ebola is spreading in Africa. It could never happen here because we have hospitals, and running water.

What if just one person shows up at Harbor View because they have what they think is the worst flu ever. On the way in the door, pukes on or near any one of the many homeless in the area? The hospital quarantines the original patient, then confirms Ebola and starts treatment.

Meanwhile, the homeless guy that was puked on has a meal at a shelter, pisses in the street, takes a dump behind a dumpster, begs for your change, touches the same touches the same surfaces as you. How much sanitation and cleanliness does the average homeless person in Seattle have?

Then you go home and hug your kids, and kiss your wife. Your kids go to school and share their lunch. I'm not trying to "fear monger", but to bury your head in the sand and say "there is NO way this can happen here", seems ignorant.

He could not have been aware that he was infected when he boarded the plane, as he failed to display any symptoms for several days after arriving in the States. There is no indication that he knew of any exposure to any Ebola patient.

The real sad part of this is, the hospital provider that originally saw him, two days prior to his admission to the same hospital, simply gave him antibiotics and sent him home, even after recording his travel history. Had he been correctly diagnosed in his initial first encounter with a healthcare provider (in an ED, no less), he might have received the supportive care (IV fluids, anti-nauseants, etc.) that would have prevented the compromise and eventual failure of his organs, leading to his death. The proverbial ball was dropped big time.

There was a reporting about the Dallas victim puking outside on the ground.

But don't be alarmed, as long as no one licks it we'll be fine.

No, the live virus can be detected (and therefore transmitted) for up to three months in the quite fresh semen of Ebola survivors, according to the CDC. This is fairly new information, and male survivors are now being advised to abstain or wear a condom (interestingly, they're not being told to, you know, advise their intimate partner(s) that said partner is about to receive a nice, warm injection of Ebola soup should that condom fail) for three months after all symptoms of the disease clear.

I hadn't seen those articles, Steve. Thanks. Texas Presbyterian Hospital still dropped the ball big time when they saw him initially, presenting with a fever and nausea and vomiting, and even given his travel history, essentially patted him on the back and sent him home with antibiotics.
