CDC claims this is the first imported case diagnosed in the US

Raston IS an Ebola Strain.

Well . . . it's spreading fast enough in Africa that I think it's reasonable to be a bit concerned.

While I agree that we probably wash our hands more often than they do, I also find it unlikely that they are licking doorhandles or rubbing their faces in crap.

Maybe panic isn't warranted, but a high level of caution certainly is.

The big thing? The Funeral rights. They kiss the dead before burial. Yeah....

They don't have clean water, they don't have good sanitation, they are packed in like sardine cans. Population density is a HUGE factor in the transmittal rates of a contact transmitted disease. You people are grossly underestimating the disparity between the two locations.

Seriously, worry about the Flu if you are going to panic about a virus.

Of this specific strain, yes.

GlockGirl, back me up here. People this is basic 101 biology.

You've ruined necrophilia for Madpick, you know that, right? Enumclaw is lonely, and horses are touchier now.

Basic Biology yes, but I still can not find where Ebola pops up in the US several times a year as stated above.

I did overstate it. However, It is not something completely new. This strain is new, however it is not transmitted as easily as people seem to think.

Except the research that showed it was airborne between certain species.... one mutation is all it takes...let's not forget that with the more people infected..the higher the likelihood that mutation occurs

No. One mutation is not all it takes. That is not how that works.

Infection vectors are not something that just changes. There is little chance for this to happen without outside help. Even weaponized Ebola is not all that good of a "population killer".

You sound like someone who watched Outbreak and now are an expert.

Yes the virus has mutated, no it is not just "one mutation away" from becoming airborne. This is not how viruses work.

I'm not an idiot.. yes...I'm over simplifying..... but it's not uncommon for virii or bacteria to change characteristics and mutate.... this is why there are different types of influenza....different strains of the common cold...etc....

I do not use movies as the basis of fact... I do use movies as a push to learn more about a subject.... and outbreak was pretty Damn inaccurate....and not even that entertaining.....

Same goes for world war z...

I'm not a cryptopathologist... just someone who is aware of potential threats and dangers...

And yes...I know how remote the possibility of it mutating, is.. that however does not mean it can't. ..and the fact that British researchers proved it was airborne and we're concerned that it could become airborne between humans is enough of a justification for me to be concerned...

with the increase in infections...comes multiple mutations...of every shape and form... some making it less virulent to humans...some more...some indifferent...

Viruses and bacteria survive by adaptation...just as all life does...

so...the more people that are infected...the higher likelihood that the mutations needed to occur to make it airborne, happen..

Whether it's millions or tens of millions of iterations....it's still possible. .

It is also possible that Obama turns out to be a great 3 gunner. That however is more likely than than Ebola becoming airborne.

Of the shit that infects humans, I know of zero that have ever mutated their infection vector. HIV is not airborne, it has had a hell of a lot more time to mutate. If something hemorrhagic became airborne, it would quickly snuff itself out. It would kill off its hosts much to quickly to survive.

Anything is possible, not many things are remotely plausible. I call Obama for my 2017 IDPA Squad.
