Well, long story long....

A lady on CL was gonna take her puppy to the pound because she just had a kid and couldn't afford it and give it the time/love it needed.. Problem is, most shelters kill, and, being a 'pit bull', I doubt she'd make it past 72 hours... :/

She then started asking money for it..

I kinda flipped out on her a little bit and said if she wants $$$ for it, I'll show up with food and toys and whatnot instead, IOTW, the money she wanted to 'make sure the dog would go to a good home', would be used to purchase things for the dog instead of putting in her pocket.

She finally admitted that she just wanted a good home for her, and I told her I'd foster it for a while and find a true home for her.. I did have her sign a release saying that she was giving the dog up, so no drama later.

She's 6-7 months old, mix American Staffordshire Terrier('pit bull') and Boxer...

She knows sit, and stay, but needs more training. She is potty trained.

She likes most fruits and vegetables as treats, but any dog treats she likes too. She loves mango, banana, and green beans the most. Other then fruit and vegetables she hasn't had any people food.

She is up to date on her shots, minus rabies vaccination. Appears to be flea/tick/mite free.

I have not taken her to a vet, as I'm unemployed and can't spare the expense.

I need a good home for her, someone who has experience with amstaffs, and can love them like they need to be loved.

If I had a house, I'd keep her, but I'm not in a position to do so.

So. *rubbing temples* you adopted an intact female dog, can't afford to have her spayed, can't afford to have her vaccinated fully and in accordance with Washington state law (http://www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily/ ... equirement), can't afford to purchase flea medication, and can't keep her indefinitely on your premises?

This will be the harshest post in the history of ever. You didn't "save" her. You are no hero. You moved her from one bad situation to one that is marginally better. Pit bulls are an overbred breed. There is no magic farm that they go to--they're euthanized by the thousands every year, for the exact reasons listed above. There are no magic "pit bull rescues". Lack of training, lack of adequate care (what happens when she goes into heat and develops pyometra? where are your options then?), lack of forethought. Go to the King County Regional Animal Control facility and see how many pit bulls and pit bull mixes are languishing in the runs, waiting for a family that will never come.

"Loving them like they need to be loved" is no damn excuse, and honestly? I'm tired of hearing it from the pit bull crowd.

Maybe you can get some video of those evil animal control officers loading your unlicenced, unspayed, under-vaccinated undesirable breed dog into the KCAC truck.

1. I knew what I was getting into.
2. I'm familiar with the breed, and I've had unfixed females before. I know about pads, and UTIs.
3. She is flea free, and I can afford flea medication if needed.
4. If she needed to be spayed, I can.

You don't know about pyometra, obviously. And "I've had unfixed females before" reads as "I've been a chronically bad pet owner before". It was never my plan to keep her, as much as I want to. The plan was to find her a better place to live, and a lethal injection at a shelter wasn't it.


Sounds like you have an axe to grind with me, or the breed, or both.

Or, he can give a puppy at least a chance. Surely you got your dogs and cat from shelters and/or rescues and understand giving a little critter an opportunity.

Sorry I have to agree with GG. Unfortunately sometimes peoples emotions blind them to the harsh realities and good intentions can lead to bad decisions.

Tell it like it is.....if she were a Golden Retriever mix everyone would be googly gooey ga ga over her. Folks hear 'pit' anything and the alarm bells go off, mostly out of fear-based manipulation by the media and the shepherds of the sheep.

It ain't the dog's fault; if she's gonna be euthanized at least a few day's stay of execution might be worth it.....it ain't like Techno is keeping her tied up to the axle housing of his truck for crimony.

I've gotten into enough of these Pit Bulls are evil arguments on gun forums through the years. Say what you want about them or even TW. But there is no harm in what TW has done here. The worst case, is that the dog ends up at the pound getting euthanized a week later then it already was. A living creature got to live for a week longer then she would have. Best case is there is someone on this board that either has the time, space, energy, and means to take this dog or knows someone that does.

I will say this, My guy sure is glad someone gave him a few extra weeks to live before we found him 7 years ago.

Glockgirl? That is rather harsh of you and I'm surprised. It is clear you have an opinion on the breed, but your judgement is clouded by that very same misconceptions created by irresponsible owners.
Yes, there are issues with Pitbulls...and I recognize that some of it is due to inbreeding but most is due to the owners treatment of the Animal.
I have seen both sides of the breed, same as with Humans. I could attach that stigma to both based on "breed", but that would be unfair.

TW? you do your thing. Find a responsible owner who is willing to actually train and spend time with the animal, and good on you.

Update:

I took food from her. no reaction.
I fed food to her from my hands. Very gentle.
She found a pistachio shell from behind the trash can, and I reached INTO her mouth and took it out... no reaction.

She also managed to swipe a very ripe tomato from the counter... So now I gotta deal with the inevitable diarrhea to follow...
