Nothing to do with anthropology. Was born out of a conversation with somebody who has had children and holds the same opinion.
Oh someone with children? They don't want to circumcise their kids? Good for them. Thats part of being a parent. Have a kid and you can make that choice as well. Keep trying to shove this shit down parents throats you come off those religious zealots you're so fond of. Keep up the good work.

How about not slicing pieces off a child's body and let them decide how they want their body to be modified?
Tell ya what, I wont tell you what do with your family(that porr cat) and you dont presume to tell me how to raise an actual child. So every Dr, (ya know what it mean when someone is an MD right?) that touts the benefits of it is wrong and you know better? Both sides have valid arguments, and I can tell you from experience, it wasnt one we came by lightly. It was strictly a medical decision for us. Mostly do to several friends I have that are going to be getting adult circumcisions, one of which has already and another who hasnt yet but had his son circumcised. So, like many things, there are two sides of an issue, both are pretty valid. Forcing your beliefs on others just makes you look like a jackass.

But circumcising your kids isn't forcing your beliefs on them?
The medical benefits have been disputed, and in the developed world, tradition, religion and debating the medical reasons drive it. Wouldn't it be better not to chop up babies?

I've raised a batch of kids. Pretty decent passel.
And... I don't know whether one choice is better than another. The argument about whacking off a bit o' the body doesn't hold up too well in my view because parents make all sorts of medical decisions for their children.
The human body is not "designed" in my opinion, and there are flaws. One flaw that pops into my mind is placing the playground right next to the sewage plant. Some flaws are common to a huge swath (or all) of the human race.
Others are limited to smaller sets in the population: Predispositions to cancer... Mental retardation... insanity... birth defects...
In all these cases we try to alleviate negatives as we find them. Being passionate about a subject doesn't necessarily mean that the opposition or the undecideds are barbarians or morons. Again, this is my pair of cents.

Everything medical can be "disputed". Maybe some day if some woman is unlucky, you may get to make that decision for yourself. Unfortunately for you I dont think the typical "girlfriend experience " comes with knocking her up.

bottom line there are some benefits.. I know since I've treated the complications of being uncircumcised...
there are also social issues depending on your social circle... in some cultures, being uncircumcised is looked down upon, and in some cultures it's the other way around...
it comes down to choice and informed consent, you give parents the information they need to make their own choices, but most already made up their minds and we don't go out to change them...
me.. if I had a son, he will get circumcised... why? because it's what I believe is best for my child... others can choose what is best for theirs...
do I have a right to make a choice for them? you bet I do... I get to choose what they eat as a kid, where they go to school (private or public) what clothes they buy and whether or not I kick them out at 18 or support them through college... it's called being a parent, something non-parents won't understand...
there are more stupid choices a parent can make that can scar a child emotionally for life than a decision about foreskin..
by the way I had a 30 year old eventually get his phimosis treated... for 30 years he was ashamed of it and never sought care... and it hurt everytime he peed as he had a constant fungal infection and so he couldn't even masturbate as it hurt... his girlfriend made him get it taken cared of so they could have sex...
I think his parents unnecessarily exposed him to emotional trauma he didn't need to go through life with...(Imagine a guy who couldn't jack off in his 30's... that probably drove him crazy) now this is an exception to the rule.. but they exist...
so having a "I know better than you" because you're barbaric and I'm not is not really helpful as much as saying I have my own child and I know what's best for them...

Its almost like you're a Dr or something........What the hell would you know? Exactly the point I was trying to make. You however were way more eloquent with your words than myself.

Anteaters are weird. Circumcise your son to lessen his chances of scaring off the opposite sex. Us boys need every advantage we can get.
since I have to examine people with the penile yeast infection that is not uncommon in the uncircumcised... I have to say, the woman (or man -- hey I don't judge) who is willing to give a blow job on somebody with yeast infection from being uncircumcised either is drunk or has a really bad sinus allergy and has no sense of smell...
