Having been not circumcised, I've never had a problem with it. I do know, however, that a friend of mine in middle school had to have it done in 7th grade, and it was NOT a pleasant experience for him, neither was the recovery.
I don't know what I'll do when/if I have a son. I have no religious compulsion for circumcision. The health benefits of it seem (to me) to be negligible, as long as you learn to clean yourself properly, there should never be a problem. I will agree that the concept of having your newborn's body cut is odd to me, but I have seen how bad it is to have to do it later in life so... I don't know. I believe they both said the primary medical reason to circumcise is in cases of phimosis, no need to get mad over it.
I am not aware of other medical reasons for it, but visual/religious preference tends to be the major reason why people do it. |
