Used to see lots of these at the mills in Ballard and W Seattle. The further down the line it goes, the faster it is. At the end, you can't outrun it. I've seen them shoot up and get wrapped in the trusses and cranes.
wow that was insane.... I remember being at the steel plat by the W Seattle bridge a few years back and seeing hot bar feeding out a blazing speed. That shit would go through you so fast, and probably cauterize you at the same time.
I worked at that plant in the early 90s. When making #4 rebar, which is sidewalk/patio size, the billets start out 4-5" square and 10-15' long. At the end you got about 400' feet of bar doing about 30 and getting cut to 100' lengths. On the fly! The 'flying shear' could cut up a bar in an emergency and sounded like a 50 cal going off. That was an awesome place to work. Not to mention I learned that with enough heat and pressure, you can fit a square peg in a round hole.
Holy Smokes! I just watched that other video. Damn! We had those big crucibles in W Sea. Right after I left, SPD came in with a truck load of seized weapons and threw them in one. There were many curse words uttered, I hear...
