NOT in school. My daughter was sent home for the day because she had a pair of nail clippers that also had a tiny micro knife. 14, and up can carry pepper spray with parental permission. Check for local ordinances, and school policies for your district. viewtopic.php?f=33&t=892

Like Sergey said, concealed is concealed. My oldest son, 13, carried a Gerber folding clip knife with his wallet in his back pocket until recently. Me, because I can't carry at work, I keep the Kershaw knife that Sergey did the group buy on clipped to the side of my bra (too heavy for scrub pants, but the side of a bra is both wide enough and strong enough to support the knife). And I carry a Gerber tactical pen now.
My hospital has very recently implemented the "run/hide/fight" strategy for an active shooter, but f*ck me if I'm going to not at least attempt to defend my patients.

My hospital has very recently implemented the "run/hide/fight" strategy for an active shooter, but f*ck me if I'm going to not at least attempt to defend my patients. Aren't hospitals full of cutting implements anyway? I don't know what type of knife you have, but be aware of concealment laws around "dangerous weapons". RCW 9.41.250 "(b) Furtively carries with intent to conceal any dagger, dirk, pistol, or other dangerous weapon; or" There was a case that went to the supreme court (woman with a small paring fixed blade knife) that the conviction was upheld. http://courts.mrsc.org/mc/courts/zappel ... pp0643.htmNow what knife fits that definition, that's another story. Knives with blades longer than 3 inches are considered "deadly weapons" in another section of the RCW. Also remember there are specific local knife laws, Seattle etc.

Well, if it hasnt been said, when it comes to blades, concealed is a crime, no? I carried at school. Call me a rebel, idiot whatever. Used it always. In class sometimes. What?, was I supposed to ask permission to be able to cut something? To clean my nails? To trim my clothes of strands? To pry open a stuck bag? Okay, at LEAST a multi tool. I'm going to be a problem parent, can you tell?

Pretty sure that no one is going to see the Kershaw I have clipped to the side of my bra...even in the nurse's locker room on my floor, I remove it (out of view from any other nurses also in the locker room) from the bra and put it in my purse before stripping out of my scrubs and hitting the showers. It's not a fixed blade, and I am certain that it is not longer than 3". Not worried.
And yes, while hospitals do have "lots of (sharp or cutting) instruments", the odds that I would have any at hand, aside from my shears, in an active shooter situation, are extremely slim.
