How long does it take to get a Ham radio license? took me a weekend class, but anyone can go and take the test without a class.

I studied off and on for a few months, passed the test and took about 2 weeks before my info showed up in the data base.

You new guys taking the test have it pretty easy. Code requirements are gone now. Still requires 35wpm for General, though.

I didn't have any formal training at the time, just a radio geek. Was at a hamfest picking up some gear and thought 'what the hell', about 2 weeks later I got a letter from the FCC and I thought 'oh shit, they found out'..........
It was just my license...
LOL

I've just started getting interested in amateur radio. Will probably start with the basic tech license (although I might try for tech and general in one go) and a cheap(ish) 2m HT to see if it holds my interest. At the very least, figure I'll learn some basic electronics and have a means to communicate in a SHTF type scenario, which seems like more than a fair trade for some study time and a less than $100 initial investment.

How long does it take to get a Ham radio license? One day or months. Depends on your ability to understand/memorize the material in the test. Study site: www.hamexam.org

MIKE and key ham fest was yesterday... Figures...if there's a party, it's a sure bet that I'll be late to it! Sidenote: GOOD GOD BAOFENG'S ARE CONFUSING ANIMALS! Apparently Baofeng allows third parties to relabel the radios as they swap out firmwares, so you end up with model numbers that may or may not actually exist and which may or may not be covered under warranty (especially true of the UV-5R line) Of course, the fact that I overthink EVERYTHING may play into this a little... Currently have the BF-F8HP in my cart (along with a USB cable and about $190 worth of books [see the "overthink EVERYTHING" comment]), but might jump to the Yaesu FT-60R. I'm going to bed...I can't take this kind of pressure.
