Hello Everyone.

My gf and I are joining households and she has a dog who is very good in regards to most things, and most people. However, he and my daughter who is 7 have had a back and forth a couple times and the two can not live in the same household. We are unable to mitigate the situation due to an ex-wife who is always looking for any reason to reduce our time with my daughter.

Jasper is a 6yr old mini australian shephard, who has no health problems, and ideally would make a most excellent companion for a single woman. He has lived well in a town house, with walks every morning and evening. He is very loyal and protective. He would also work out well for a couple on some property or the like. He is a good vocal style household guardian, and does well with other dogs when not on his own turf i.e house or yard. He is very intelligent, and really enjoys walks, and camping, and hiking. He's not really into fetch. He is trained really well, and loves to please his owner. He would also work out well for an older couple on some property or the like.

He has no history of problems with children except with my daughter, however he has not been around too many children. I would not recommend him unsupervised around kids, or in a household with kids.

We are running out of options available to us, and the alternatives are getting unpleasant. We have tried friends, family, the original breeder, PAWS and the local shelters tell us they do not have availability for him. We greatly wish to find a loving household he can fit in with. We will also entertain other suggestions as well. Thanks, Brian.

Just folks not looking to have kids is all. I think he views my daughter as another dog in his territory.

Oh Brian that sucks! I wish I could take him but I am still only in a townhouse. Plus I have a small child. Have you tried posting in fb pet page?

Ok hold on... Not to sound like a total asshole... But your dog and kid went at it and the dog is still breathing?

The kids are more often at fautult than the dogs. People need as much training or even more, than the dogs do.

The breeder won't take him back? You may consider reporting them to the breed organization because that's almost certainly in violation of their breeder code of conduct. It's inexcusable, really.

On the more helpful side, this -- http://www.miniaussierescue.org/aboutMARS/about.html -- is a link for a Mini Aussie rescue group. They're based on the East Coast but almost certainly have contacts in just about every state. They might be able to connect you with someone out here that can assist in re-homing your guy.

You could also contact some of the larger herding outfits to see if they know of anyone who's looking for a new prospect. Both Ewe-topia (http://www.ewe-topia.com/) and PackLeader (http://www.packleaderdogtraining.net/HERDING.html) operate at the core of the local herding world. Try giving them a call just to see if they have any thoughts.

Best of luck!

We we could take him but we just adopted a third dog. We have an Aussie, Border Collie, and Lab/Heeler mix.

Herding breeds are different, especially the Aussie. If not properly socialized they will "Nip" children and adults; this is natural for them and to punish them for this is not acceptable. What is acceptable is to train the children and adults to properly respect the breed by educating them on what to expect. We always tell children and their parents to give a firm look at the Aussie before walking by him. If you don't there is a 50% chance he'll nip you in the ankle or knee cap; doesn't draw blood but will make you think twice.

Good luck on your rehoming. Aussies are great dogs for hikers and the outdoorsman.

Bo

I actually talked with Mrs ANZAC about this dog when the post first came out. He is a good looking dog.
Unfortunately we have too much going on to take in another dog right now. :(
