Lack of transparency is one of the huge problems that Obama administration has - unlike, for example, Communism/Socialism/Marxism - and should definitely take flack for that. This is one of the ways where he promised to be different from Bush/Cheney, and completely failed to deliver. They also are the worst administration for prosecuting whistleblowers: the only people who were in jail for CIA torture were the people who exposed it. This was one fo the big reasons I wrote in Stephen Colbert/Jon Stewart in the presidential part of the ballot in 2012.

That said, I am going to snap this threat to enjoy the wingnuts here being completely silent when a Republican administration does exactly the same thing - like they were completely silent when Bushies did it. Just kidding, with Republican focus exclusively on the scared white man demographic, there will be no Republican administration in the foreseeable future.

I for one was too busy following orders in the Military to really stop and think about Bush/Cheney. The Obama administration has awoken me to the realities of our government. For me personally, in the future, Republicans will get much less leeway than they used to in my mind.

I think the concept of Libertarianism has been growing, which I think goes back to the Statist/Libertarian spectrum discussion with Doc I think either in this thread or another...that is more telling than Democrat or Republican.

I personally think people are starting to wake up to what the government is doing and paying more attention.

I for one do not buy the current Democratic Party mantra that Republicans will not be able to win another presidential election in near future. Public opinion is notoriously fickle. Also for years the Democrats were completely unable to present qualified candidates that the public found acceptable. The party is based on a loose coalition of outsider groups in American politics that frequently don't play well together (e.g. union democrats losing out on high quality Keystone pipeline jobs because the President kow-tows to environmental constituency and vetos the pipeline bill). Also the party has typically in the past presented candidates appealing to the left wing of the party but which are unacceptable to most moderate voters. This is evident is current dissension within the party of the much anticipated Hillary Clinton nomination.

For the Democrats to say they OWN presidential elections for the foreseeable future due to changing demographics is the highest form of hubris. Pride goeth before the fall as the saying goes.
