Lawmaker says filming police should be a crime, especially when armed

If one Texas lawmaker gets his way, it will be a misdemeanor for residents of the Lone Star State to point a camera at a police officer from a distance of 25 or fewer feet.

But wait, there's more!

If you're one of the chosen few, designated as 'approved media', it doesn't apply!

(1) filming, recording, photographing, or documenting the officer within 25 feet of the officer; or

(2) filming, recording, photographing, or documenting the officer within 100 feet of the officer while carrying a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code.

But wait, it gets even better....!

Frazier told the AP that “somebody is going to get killed” if citizen journalists and activists continue filming officers — or, as he put it, “trying to pick a fight with their camera.”

This fucking piece of shit... Shoot someone because they have a camera and are recording police?

I can see it now...

Man is standing on sidewalk recording police, and an officer confronts him, telling him to stop recording.. and the man has to keep backing up...the officer keeps walking towards him and *poof*, he's within 25', and viola! Off to jail he goes!

There are three bills in the Texas Legislature regarding the topic of filming police activity. Rep. Villalba's bill is by far the most ridiculous and won't get taken seriously by anyone other than the police associations who got him to be their lapdog.

And no one politician is perfect. This news story makes Villalbo out to be a person who is against freedom which is false. Always more to a story.

he's just doing what the police union here in tejas wants him to do. it's just lame ass job security for when his ass is voted out at some point in his political career.
