Faithful readers may remember the time I spit into the campfire and told the story about the pack of deer who tried to knock the ladder out from under me as I sawed a big hole in a metal roof with a coarse blade in a Sawzall at our new place. (Or something like that.) "Aw, you're full of it. Deer don't stand around in the open right next to your house. Big liar. Tell us another one." Etc. Attachment: deerinbackyard.jpg This is every day. Every single day. Highest number that we've counted is 14 at a time, but that's not all that come through. They do move in herds - and there are at least two of the regular groups, plus smaller groups of bucks (3 to 5 in the stag groups.) Occasionally there will be some Mulies, but 90+ % are Whitetails. I am planting an orchard - 20 Cherry, 30 plum, Bunch of apples, 30 nut trees. It's going to have at least an 8' fence with a few hot strands down within nose reach. I don't mind sharing with them after the trees are near full grown, but deer will eat the life out of an orchard in one day when they're this thick. Best tip I've found so far is to hang some tinfoil from one of the hotwires at about nose-height and smear peanut butter on the foil. (A voice keeps whispering "Smear the peanut butter THEN turn the fence on.")

That's awesome, you need a suppressor. I really wish I lived out in the sticks. One day I'll retire to Texas and sit on 300 acres

They say in Texas, if you can't embellish upon a story, you got no business telling it

Have also been looking into the skull structure of whitetails... There's a thin spot that a 30 grain pill moving at about 1000 fps should retain enough energy to scramble and drop instantly. Not that I would do that. cmica wrote: Soldier_Citizen wrote: Words cannot describe my envy right now same here timmytowbowman wrote: Awww very nice. This truly makes my mouth water Road trip. I haven't seen the game that Mr H20 references... But I've seen videos of squirrel launchers. And I remember a Smithsonian magazine that had a trebuchet launching a Volkswagen IIRC. I think it would be a hoot to set up a trebuchet a couple of hundred yards away and then send a bowling ball their way... Maybe once a month so they don't get too spooked. dan360 wrote: No hunting on the family property...mama will kill us. That was always my personal rule in Washington. Even up on the treefarm... Kind of wanted to keep them as relaxed as possible on the home spread. But out here... They're a menace. I've already hit 3 while driving, and I'm a good driver. Careful. Careful makes no difference when the deer want to commit suicide on the front bumper of your car though. This afternoon-
