Can't really afford a personal training, but I'm currently looking into fitness/gym stuff. In the past, I've had pretty good success with TRX, Bootcamps, and Crossfit type workouts. I really miss JBLM for that.
Seems like they are just so darn expensive here on the outside.
Anyone have suggestions in the Federal Way/Kent area along 167 or I-5?
I don't know what the prices are now (I am grandfathered in as my gym was bought by LA Fitness) but the wife and I go to the LA Fitness along 167 at Willis Street, good atmosphere, only a few douchebags, even when it s really busy you can find a machine to use.
For a gym selection my primary motivation was money: it had to cost me enough that I would feel very upset at myself for NOT working out. I know it sounds silly, but breaking bad habits (not working out) is hard, and money is a huge motivator for a lot of people. I went with LA Fitness because good god, their prices were just on the edge of my "I can't afford this" range. I mean they have a lot of stuff and classes and (this was pretty important) child care, but wow it's pretty pricey.
I've been going three times a week for three months now, so it seems to be working so far!
Obviously YMMV and different life situations etc, but yea, having a fat bill every month motivating you to get your money's worth seems to be doing the job for me.
It totally depends on what works for you. I work out at All-Fitness right off 167 in Kent. My buddy Travis runs it mostly doing MMA classes (Muy Thai and BJJ) and personal training. I do some training with him, but also use the weights on my lunch breaks. Good guy, nice little gym where I usually have the place to myself.

what are you paying? I pay $19/month...no contract
YMCA and/or backpack, hike and snowshoe in the great outdoors. Add a backpack of 10 to 90 pounds but remember to slowly increase your weight and the difficulty of the trails over time.

YMCA is a socialist organization, they base your costs on how much you make, and give free memberships to people on welfare........I just could not support that kind of pricing structure
Gym Beam, of course. Straight up, rocks, makes no difference to me.
Sorry man, in the North End, so don't have a specific place to recommend. But I would offer a caution - I've seen too many of these places come and go, so avoid signing up for the automatic billings cash extraction process most of them want you to enroll in. Pay them by check, and be much happier. That what I've always done. Just my $0.02.
Go to WWW.Silversneakers.com. This is an organization for those over 65 and on Medicare part "B". The web site will give a list of ALL fitness facilities in your area. These Gyms are for the general public regardless of age or financial status. Just a good locator for a gym.
While I know money is always a concern finding a good Crossfit gym and taking on-ramp classes to help you learn good form is a good way to get motivated. Then you can find workouts of the day on a lot of websites like Crossfit.com. If motivation is an issue the group fitness like Crossfit can be a motivator. Essentially if you have a good Crossfit coach it is almost like a personal trainer but cheaper. Once you get the hang of it and learn what you are doing if you have the means build yourself a garage gym. That way u don't have the excuse of not being able to get to the gym. Nice thing about most Crossfit style Workouts is the amount of time needed to get a good workout. The biggest mistake folks make is they try to go 2 hard 2 soon and get injured. Good luck in the hunt.
