USPS admits storing all mail addresses in DB, recording cust

Thu Mar 26, 2015 12:11 pm

'Hidden' cameras were found un USPS property, in a 'utility box'... Positioned to capture license plates and drivers....

The USPS said they were 'justified' in using them, and it was a matter of 'people keeping people safe', but shortly after the request for information was made, the camera was pulled out of the ground...

They have nothing to hide, but they're hiding it...

And, they admitted to keeping a database of all the addresses on packages, sender and receiver, in a database....

So, now they're tracking everyone that puts anything in the mail...

USPS caught using hidden cameras

I remember the database stuff coming out a couple years ago, but the cameras are definitely new. Glad I don't bother with them anymore.

Aside from the actual amount of information gathered, how is this any different than any other govt, or even private sector surveillance? It all comes down to the intent of use. Recognizing nefarious possibilities, is not the same as true intent. For example: you might argue that the purpose of your dash cam, is to record traffic interactions....when we all know that you're just waiting for the mothership to come back for your next unscheduled anal probe... :045:

Cameras are everywhere. The non-disclosure part is disturbing, but we're all being followed.

Yup. Having my where abouts recorded as I enter and leave fed property is a given.

Having my mail tracked as well is a no-brainer as well. There is no expectation of privacy in these cases.

Clearly it's time to start addressing packages as Acme Dildo and Anal Stimulator Mfg Co

Those cameras are not put there to prevent crime, they are information gatherers. Who comes, who goes, and how often they do so.

Not really seeing how this is surprising to anyone.

The USPS is broke. I have a difficult time imagining them with the funding to monitor who, when, and how often. CCTV is a crime deterrent, only because it is admissible evidence in an investigation. It's a cheap "cover your ass", all purpose insurance policy.

Im sure some areas of the .GOV (DHS-FBI) have full access to these cameras. Just because the USPS is broke, doesn't mean their info that is gathered isn't shared.

So you hide it in a utility box, aim it catch license plates, then tear it up when someone asks what it's for?

sounds legit.

1984 is a fucking manual for some people, apparently, and not just a novel.

Just pointing out that surveillance on the level of recording and KEEPING addresses of all packages sent, and recording vehicle license plates along with the driver, goes far beyond CYA...
