How much of a shooter or firearm enthusiast are you?

Fri Mar 27, 2015 8:55 am

As a hobby....

Just trying to get a feel for the membership here.

Obviously you are here at some level of an enthusiast or shooter.

Shooting is my only hobby. I have other things I do but it's not my passion.

*For me, I shoot, I share, I teach, I think about shooting and how I can improve the "sport"

I've tried other hobbies, and I enjoy other things... but when it comes to money spent I have a hard time spending any money when there is gun stuff to buy. I like to hunt, but I lump that in with my gun hobby.

Hunting, Sporting Clay, shooting sports/competition...

And even reloading I would lump into shooting related.

Although I would say for other survey's "reloading" is a separate hobby... :thumbsup2:

When I'm not working, I'm shooting. When I'm not shooting, I'm reloading. When I'm not reloading, I'm reading about it. One could say I've got the bug.

Pretty much sums me up. Shooting/hunting/reloading/collecting.

It's been consuming me. I use to fish almost everyday depending on the river flows. I lived to fish. But now I'm really getting into bolt guns and what not. I've also taken up the sport of USPSA.

"Poor" bastard.

Please note that I don't mean this in a negative way... I just mean... you are going to get poorer (literally)... :wink05:

Fun as hell and in a year's time... you'll have like 2-3 set ups as you evolve from gear to gear...

The shooting sports (IDPA, USPSA)... it's all about trimming time and increasing your accuracy.

Stole this.

Relatively politically active when it comes to firearms and wildlife/hunting related issues.

Also an avid fisherman, dad, husband, farmer, and I enjoy recreational carpentry. Not a one trick pony by any means.

While I really like my EDC and my little practice SR22, the things I am most 'passionate' about are teaching people to be safe while handling guns. Safe gun handling is not intuitive. I have realized the scariest words someone tells me anymore regarding guns (usually said in a blustery drawl, while hiking up their britches...;) is, "I've been around guns all my life!!" EEEK!
Another passion is teaching about the law in regards to the legal use of deadly force. WAY too many scary myths out there about how folks are "gunna shoot 'em some bad guys, by golly!" O.o

Just had a fella call tire kicking prices on firearm safety classes; told me he didn't want his married daughter to learn all the 'nonsense' about how to avoid or de-escalate conflict, the legal side of when you can use deadly force and how to 'handle' a gun safely, he just wanted to keep it simple and have someone teach her 'how to shoot' the 357 he is gonna give her to protect herself....and he can find someone alot cheaper than me to teach that...yep....*sigh* I just hope he or his daughter never has to face thousands of dollars in bail money or legal fees...

Shooting in the pit on most weekends, trip once a week to the range and IDPA every Tuesday.

Building, reloading and reading in the other spare time.

Now that I won't be skiing this summer.....

Yeah, I have a problem.

Not enuf ammo.

I'm pretty much that way with folks that tell me they have "military experience" when it comes to shooting pistols...

Please note this is coming from an ex Army guy...

The military has many many roles. Not everyone is 11 series (infantry), etc.

I carried a 1911 when I deployed (they ran out of M9's back when I was deployed to Desert Shield/Storm). But I was just proficient. I could handle a M16 pretty well but it's not like they gave me tons of time on the 1911.

sidenote: So that is when I fell in love with the 1911 platform. I loved carrying that thing around in my leather tanker chest rig I bought just before deploying.

Someone has to prove they can handle a firearm...
it all depends on where and what we are doing. Safety has many different meanings when it comes to situation and location.
If you want to see muzzle discipline (lack of) check out a shotgun range. icon_eek

Please note I used to shoot shotgun so I know. Break open the action and toss it over the shoulder. Do a 360 and no one will say anything.

Oh Monica here is my sig line.

I voted for minor hobby, but I guess shooting/reloading/guns/competitions is really the only hobby I have right now.

It's amazing how it can rapidly take your time and energy... :wink05:

There are so many facets to shooting... so many niches. Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun... Bullseye, Cowboy, Sporting competitions and just for fun and marksmanship...

I shoot 4 position small bore rifle on Tuesday nights, Bullseye pistol on Thursday nights and am usually at the pistol range for a couple hours on the weekend. Reload when I need to to feed my 45 ACP, 9mm and 38 special pistols. Switch to International Air Pistol on Thursday nights in the spring. If you want to reinforce the fundamentals of pistol shooting shoot a Bullseye pistol or Air Pistol league. If you can shoot a pistol very well one handed, two handed is a breeze.
