I dunno, Ford is definitely falling behind.
In 2007 my bro bought a 4 banger frontier, and other than brakes and oil, hasn't spent money on it. It now has a bad cat, but it also has 180K miles on it.....
damn near 200k with nothing but PMCS is fucking impressive, IMO...
I would expect the equivalent Ford (Ranger) to toss a tranny at 120-150k, and probably an alternator or starter...
I will say this.... Something my grandfather taught me.... (He built missiles for DOD in the 50's and 60's)...
Never, EVER, buy the first model of ANYTHING... They're still working out the bugs and you're the guinea pig..
Doesn't matter if it's a 'new and revolutionary toaster!'.... don't buy the first model run....

I wish the US sold the Toyota diesel Heliux or even the Ford Ranger in diesel. There was talk about since the Jeep Cherokee was released in a turbo diesel that the Durango was going to get the option as well.

If I am not mistaken Chevy was goin to make a Colorado with a 4 banger Diesel and it was scheduled to come out here really soon , their was pictures floating around on the webz and it looks like a mini Avalanche. I think that would be the ONLY Domestic vehicle I would even think about buying now if Nissan put a Diesel in a Frontier.........I would be all over like a fat kid on Cake.

Being a Titan owner I can tell you that they, and the new models, aren't anything like the F-150.
Mine's a 2004 and unlike many of the Fords I haven't had to become "close buddies" with the Service Manager at the dealership. In over 10 years the truck has had to visit the shop three times. Two for a couple of minor recall items and once for transmission fluid exchange which I wanted because I tow a heavy Travel Trailer.

I have had 4 recalls on my 06 Titan for minor stuff.

the reference is purely cosmetic... the front looks like it was designed by a ford engineer that changed employers...

It's a chevy. That's a 'moveable tow hook' for when it breaks down.

When you read the actual developmental history of the Titan, Nissan basically started with an F-150 and used focus groups to find out what they liked and hated about the Ford. That's why the Titan delivers more torque at lower RPM's, had a better tow capability (at the time), bigger back seat, and other improvements over the Ford.
The engine itself is quite a story. Contrary to popular belief it wasn't merely a beefed up Infinity engine. The entire crankshaft "line" is supported by a relatively massive "girdle" that supports the bearing caps and makes the block more rigid. The actual "pan" is about the size of a small sauce pan and it's pretty much there only to support the drain plug. The "crankcase" holds 7 quarts of oil. Somewhere on the 'net' is a "White Paper" on the actual development of the engine. Read it and you'll understand why so many Titan owners see so many Chev's, Fords, and Dodges, in the their rear view mirrors when there's an "acceleration contest" :) :). Not that an old fart like me would ever resort to such "teen-aged tactics" of course
