Hey fellow WaGuns buds,
I've been working on a novel-length book in the economic disaster fiction genre and am plugging along very well, up to 50k+ words and about 1/3rd done per my outline. Not much tinfoil hat/Infowars type stuff, more about a diverse mix of different people and how they react to an economic collapse and resulting reshaping of government and society. If you've read Lucifer's Hammer and/or One Second After, it's much like the former in the character mix and the latter in style. Someone will invariably parallel it with Rawles' Patriots books (which also involve an economic disaster); I have read those but his books are much more focused on specific events rather than developing characters.
So --- I really could use a few subject matter experts. Brownsalamander on TOS has already helped with some Army MP and Afghanistan experiences which pretty much wrote a whole chapter for me. I am asking for first person experience experts only. I'll probably want to interview you by phone and/or ask you to read and critique small parts. No, I do not need any more "read it all and provide feedback on the plot and characters" help at this time.
1. Knowledge of Israel, specifically the IDF
2. Knowledge of the Russian Air Force
3. An actual Army or Air Force field surgeon
4. A licensed dietitian
5. Someone with extensive recent knowledge of a Rust Belt city like Detroit, Cleveland, Toledo, Gary, etc. I haven't chosen one city specifically.
6. An electrical engineer, specifically in small electronics (motors, batteries, etc)
Since I'm no bigshot or celebrity, this will almost certainly be a self-published book, hopefully before Christmas. I can't promise a free book to everyone who helps, but those that contribute significantly will almost certainly get a copy. A mention in the book's Acknowledgements will be made unless opted out.
PM me if you're one of those experts and want to help, I'll make comments later if I no longer need help with one area or if a new one crops up.

So your Novel is based on the "Fallout" Video Game Franchise?............................Sweet!!!!!!!!!!
LOL Im kidding of course although when we met at Greenwater awhile ago you never really struck me as the Stephen King Type. Good on you for having that kind of patience.

If you mean intense and creepy like Stephen King, no. The writers that I've met seem to fall into two buckets: regular folks, and those that take themselves way too seriously. I really hope I'm in the first bucket.
Fallout is a neat game setting but is very "wahoo" in nature. No giant green mutants with laser gatlings in my book.

ProfNet may offer a wider variety of credentialed experts if you aren't able to find the help you need locally.

Awesome! I will check that out.
Also, I could use someone with some knowledge of the criminals and gangs around the Spokane area. A police officer would probably be best --- someone with ties into the gangs there probably won't want their name in my Acknowledgements.

Hmm I don't think I meet their requirements. Looks like you have to be a credentialed journalist or some equivalent.

I could go down that road, sure, but I'd rather have some anecdotal evidence. This is a fiction novel, not a dissertation on gangs.
