I actually took a .38 to the shin when I was 19. The bullet hit and slid down toward the ankle and stopped. I didn't lose my leg but like the Doc said, "you're gonna wish you had broke it." The bone was bruised and the leg swelled up 4x's its normal size. It took almost 12 weeks to heal and I have a cool round scar to show off.
To this day, I hate small caliber derringers except for my .45/70 derringer.

I have met Chuck, and I will vouch for his character. For those who don't know him, and were misled (by a somewhat obvious April Fool's Joke), I believe your anger misplaced. My personal opinion, take it or leave it.

Chuck: The picture of your daughter is wrong. I know she would never listen to anybody's opinion at that age, but a sharp machete, bare legs (almost bare chested), on one leg, on roller skates, is is courting disaster. Tell her to stop doing that, tell her now!

Calm down, it was for a 50's themed calender shoot for the team. Trust, me she is very level/hard headed. She's a great, and very tough kid (20) that can handle herself. She has been a big help when I was layed up after surgeries. She is even a little into prepping. If she doesn't want a gun, then I will supply edged weapons.
