Having just finished putting together the paperwork for my business and personal taxes so I can send it to the tax preparer I am wondering what you are all using to track your business mileage? I am currently using manual/paper tracking log books and am wondering if there are some good apps out there for the smartphone/pc?
Something that allows export to an Excel file would best as I end up making several excel files when compiling the information.
I see a number of them on google play but would like to get some real user feedback from WAguns.
Thanks

I've tried a number of different apps over the years but I have personally use Road Trip for 2 or 3 years now:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/road-tr ... 98207?mt=8Yes, it's $6.99 but I used the free version for a long time and eventually decided it was worth paying for the premium features. Here's the free version:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/road-tr ... 92794?mt=8The developer keeps his shit in running order and regularly updates the app - which is not something you can say about a lot of apps that are made by individuals (most of which are worthless). He even added a feature to track 5 gallon Jerry cans because people asked for it.

Can you get Excel on your phone? That's what I use on my Windows Phone. No muss no fuss, just basic workbook goodness.

I have a separate vehicle I use for my farm. Track beginning and ending mileage. Done.

If you store the Excel file on OneDrive, yes. The file is in the cloud and accessible by any device at that point.
It's all tightly integrated with Windows Phone but I imagine it's possible with Android too. If OneDrive doesn't work for you, then maybe DropBox would.

With modern technology there should be an app out there that would automatically track your mileage using GPS coordinates.
Hit start when starting your "business driving" and stop when it ends. Let the electronics do their magic and store up the trips. Record and clear monthly if you have to turn in an expense report.
Now if only someone made that.
BTW, this is one of the benefits of being retired. No more frigging paperwork, expense reports, and crap like that.

Thanks for the replies.
Benja, I should have specified that my phone was android. I couldn't find an android version of road trip.
cmica - I am guilty of making things a bit easy on my tax person. It's not unusual for her to get farmers bringing in shoe boxes full of expense and sales receipts, financial statements etc and she has to piece together their business year from that mass of paper.
I have not had very good luck with excel on my phone, in part because it's an old phone (although it does have gps) with a small screen which makes scrolling through a spreadsheet tedious.
deadshot mentioned something that would utilize the phones gps and I found this one that got fairly good ratings, and it exports to excel. I think I might give it a try.

I use TripLog. $3 for the paid version and it works to keep track of mileage, fuel and receipts if you want to pay more. I also log parking fees with the trip. Sends reports via email. Highly recommend it. Use it every time I hit the road for a business related trip. It has a couple of minor quirks, but they really are minor.

Good thread....I need an app of some sort.
My hand log book is a &*@# tedious mess.
I travel all over WA for gun shows.... and all over doing RV deliveries.... Truck I bought February 2014 has 30k worth of business miles on it in 14 months.

I use this one. I just noticed it claims to have a feature you are describing, although I haven't used it.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/miletra ... 48751?mt=8I'll have to familiarize myself with it. Otherwise, a decent little app.
