In truth, the LAST thing a police officer wants to see in most cases is an ordinary citizen jumping into the fray with a gun in his hand.

In the words of one officer I was shooting with one day, "It's a good way to get shot. The officer doesn't know a good guy from just another friend of the guy he's doing battle with at the moment". He suggested that if you see an officer needing help and want to get involved just come and put a knee on the suspect's neck while the officer finishes cuffing him.


Yes, there are exceptions but just remember, anyone not in uniform or plainly displaying a badge, that has a firearm in their hand, is just going to look like a "Nail" to any "Hammers" that show up.
