I don't know what the deal is with all these control freak ranges in the King/Pierce co. area. Too many rules. I've never shot at any of them and never will.

Come on over to Kitsap co. for your range days. Visit Kitsap Rifle & Revolver Club or Poulsbo Sportsmans Club. They don't care what you shoot or how many rounds in a mag. Poulsbo Sportsmans Club only has rapid fire restrictions. Pretty much anything goes at KRRC, you can do all your "tactical" reloads & such until your hearts content.

Or just go shoot in the woods somewhere way the hell away from King co.

Oh my. So I just checked out Snoqualmie... Looks like a fun place to shoot. Then I see that smoking is not allowed on the range property. Hmmm, I'm starting to think I'm gonna have a tough time living in Washington state. You guys have an awful lot of rules here. This is really disturbing. Shit!

I don't go to "official" ranges for precisely this reason. Too many damn rules. My advice is to find your closest "Honey Hole" and frequent that. Do some exploring and you can find quite a few that aren't listed on the Range Map. I won't bother giving you the "clean it up" speech, as I'm reasonably certain you already know it.

Ya'll crack me up! Anywhoo, I ended up going to Tacoma Sportsmen's Club. Thanks for the recommendation Spokepoker, it was a really pleasant place to shoot. Friendly RSO's and nice facilities. And what a beautiful landscape, it is gonna take me a while to get used to how pretty this state really is. The only gripe I had about the range was no rapid fire. That is the one thing that will probably keep me from joining that club. But I'll research all of your recommendations, I do appreciate the info!

I don't know of any range that allows rapid fire other than Federal Way Discount Guns. But, you have to be a member to shoot rifles and its only a indoor short range. Tacoma Sportsmens Club is my favorite "official" range I enjoy going to. There are two good gravel pits "locally" the Tenino honey hole and the Greenwater 5 mile pit. Both are around 125yards.

If you are willing to drive another 45 minutes to an hour south of Tacoma, you will find, as mentioned by Massivedesign, that Evergreen Sportsman's Club will meet all your needs. I'm one of the RSOs there. Get to know the RSOs (meaning show that you are careful, contientious and safe) and you can rapid fire, load full mags, etc... Annual membership is only $75, but membership is not required to shoot. Www.shootesc.org. Full camping and RV hookups are available too at great prices. It's also the biggest trap shooting facility in the PNW. $15 to shoot all day, military/disabled vets pay $10, members pay $5. This is also where the annual WaGuns New Years Day shoot is held. Glad you finally made it to WA.

Let's clarify "rapid fire"

First... rifle, pistol or shotgun.

Most ranges in Washington (indoor and outdoor) will not allow rapid fire with a rifle. So if you know of one... then they are the exception (except for competitions, etc). So if you can't rapid fire... some ranges will limit the rounds (e.g. 1 round at a time or 3-5 rounds, etc)

Most ranges in Washington will allow some degree of rapid fire from a pistol (within reason at some places.... some may say 1 per second, etc).

If you shoot Continental, Skeep, Sporting Clay... but as for just blasting shotgun... not at most established ranges.



*Most ranges were built in the 1930's - 1950's in Washington... and back in those days... the ranges were pretty isolated.
Now - they are most likely surrounded by homes on practically all 4 sides especially here on Western Washington.

The limitation on rounds and such is practical matter of safety and the continued longevity of the range itself.

-A few years ago a bullet left a range in Tukwila and hit a car near I-5. It basically closed that range down until they could investigate what had happened. Fortunately for the range no injury (if I recall) and it was the Tukwila Police range so I'm sure it was thorough... its now open again. But one can imagine that other ranges may have not been so lucky.
-Rifle ranges are limited in most (there are a few 500-600 yards ranges) but these are all really meant to sight in rifles for hunters and just for marksmanship.

*If you have not really looked at the baffles on a range... look at the supports and ceiling and side walls. You'll see lots of holes all over. Remember we have all kinds of shooters from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences...


Now, there are a few "honey holes" - you saw the recent cleanups.
If you look North - Sedro Woolley
If you look mid way (East) - Greenwater
If you look South - Waddle Creek

I agree all the range limitations in Pierce County are really lame and aggravating. Used to practice at The Marksman in Puyallup for handgun until they posted a one shot per second rule. I do understand they have problems with spray and pray shooters and people hitting target hangers, etc. But it made the range useless as far as furthering my skills with a handgun so don't go there anymore. I've basically given up on Pierce County ranges unless I'm attending a sanctioned match.

In order to keep progressing in skills for competition (pistol steels, ICORE) I need to be able to practice holster work (both dry and live fire), reloads, and rapid fire on multiple targets for various drills, not just slow fire group shooting (although I still do that as well). I don't mind at all having to go through a skills demonstration for the range but it really aggravates me when a range limits everyone to least common denominator.

Luckily I discovered Evergreen Sportsmans Club in Littlerock as mentioned by Dan and Chris

There is always an RSO on site controlling the range and you are free to practice holster work, reloads, and rapid fire provided you stay within your capabilities and are behaving safely. The only downside for you would be the long drive to Mexico (Thurston County). The rifle range is only 100 yards so fairly short range.

Other than that Thurston County is superior to King/Pierce County in every way

It has sight adjustments for 2000..
