Free simple mp4 editor?

I only want to do two things:
- cut off the last few seconds of the video
- increase the audio (if possible).

I own Corel VideoStudio Pro, but can't figure out how to save the truncated video as a mp4 (it only saves as a project file), or how to change the volume of the audio.

So, I'm looking for a malware-free, cost-free bare bones program that will do those two things.

Recommendations?
