How to jail break my apple files?

Wed Apr 08, 2015 8:37 am

We are happy in our little Apple eco system for now, but I realize some day that may change and I'd like options. Some content we've just ripped from CDs or DVDs, so those are good, but is there a simple way to un-encrypt our Apple purchased movies and music so we can have more versatility in the future?

I dunno if this works or not, but "stripping DRM" is what you'll need to search for.

Apple Purchased movies are played by quicktime on PC's. You can download them and play them through that media player.

Apple music is a proprietary file format, but itunes has a built in converter.

There is no need to JB for either of the things you want to do.

Meh...I'm very happy in my Apple eco-system (MacBook Air, iPad 2, Time Capsule, Apple TV, iPhone 6). It just works.

Yes, but IMO musicmatch jukebox, Winamp, and all the other music management software out there kinda sucked before iTunes came along and made it user friendly.

IMO, iTunes success is behind the success of the iPod, iPhone, and ultimately led to the App Store and all that brought.

You know...I actually hate iTunes - it's too bloated. I loved Winamp.

No need to laugh.. Apple got rid of the "our way or suck a rock" mentality a while ago. You don't even have to have itunes any more to have an iphone. Yes, you need an Apple ID for apps, but you need a google account if you want to play in the Play store as well.

The AAC format is actually better than MP3, it offers better quality with the same, or smaller in a lot of cased, file size. It's also supported by Android (so you can take your entire iTunes library and play it on a droid).

The easiest way is to get iTunes Match for a year and turn it off before the renewal. One time fee and it de-drm's all your downloaded stuff. http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials ... -mac-59271

Not sure. I don't think so.... but it worked great for audio (eventually). Going through the mega download and then turning it off is a bit of a pain. But it works.
