Kentridge High School and Undocumented Students

Mon May 01, 2017 7:06 pm

I don't normally post on issues like this, but this got me a little fired up. :angryfire:

Someone posted this on the Nextdoor website:

I don't know how to react. I heard today on the radio that Kentlake Band is not going to be able to participate in the Victoria Day Parade which has been a tradition for Kent schools for-EVER! (I think they said 18 years) My kids participated in this event with the Kentridge Band, and it was a great experience for them. I chaperoned a few times, and then also just tagged along to listen another time.

The reason given was that a few members of the band are undocumented. They can't take those few students, so the district (according to the news story) is disallowing the entire band from participating.

If someone has more information on this, I'd like to hear it. I plan to write a letter to the school district. Even though my kids have been out of school for about 10 years, I feel strongly that the band should go, and students who don't have the paperwork to leave the country (or come back) should be left at home. That was the way it was when my kids participated. The few students who couldn't provide proper paperwork didn't hold back the entire band from having a great performance experience.

Someone else who is apparently a member of the school board replied:

We (the board) made the decision to halt international travel at this point in time. We have developed a five-paged and equity policy that says in part: "Kent School District will provide all students, families, and staff the opportunity to succeed and will implement practices that foster the growth of all students so they can achieve academically regardless of their dimensions of diversity. It is the right of all students to receive a high quality, equitable education and have a safe social experience in our schools."

With the change in the current political climate, we couldn't ensure the safety of all students if they went on the Victoria trip. No longer are we leaving those behind who might be afraid to cross the border. Leaving home those students who are undocumented is not providing an equitable experience for them. By law, we can't ask or keep records of the documentation status of our students. By leaving them home, their status could be compromised. We care for and support all of our students---every human being in our care.

We did not make this decision lightly or without personal emotions. We know that the Victoria trip has been special. When I was in high school, my Edmonds High School band went to Victoria. Both my sons went to Victoria with their bands. The good news is that district personnel, through diligent work, got a confirmation that the Kentlake band can go to the Lilac Festival in Spokane later this month. So far, 80 students have confirmed. This will allow all students to travel on a district-approved trip in safety and without fear. I'm sure the board will approve it soon.

So . . . because some of the students are apparently undocumented, they are canceling all international trips so the undocumented students don't get "outed."

Fuck that. :angryfire:

If they are undocumented then that is their problem to deal with, not the district. I remember being in band events and people not being about to attend all the time for grades, attendance, religion, monetary issues, or parents who couldn't cut the cord. Why should everyone else be left behind too? It doesn't sound like the district is wanting to provide high quality experiences if they are canceling on account of a few. I get their logic, but is it up to the school district to deal with the documented or undocumented status of students? If a student can't go they can't go. If the student doesn't like it, then do the work to become a citizen.

Yep, F'n BS! Taking up our resources being paid by legal citizens. That's our schools getting overcrowded and our taxes going up to pay for more room.

I don't understand the insanity in the thought process for Sanctuary BULLSHIT!

That's our kids getting screwed by illegals and the school board!!!

It's even more outrageous than you think.

There has been no change on this policy since the last administration left. That meant the school was fine with the Obama admin operating with the exact same rules for ICE that Trump has, so they are making this problem up out of thin air.

Even when Trump does the EXACT same thing as Obama the libtards scream bloody murder. Totally sickening. Hat tip to the Carlson Show on KVi for pointing this out this morning.

A caller to the show also mentioned the budget for these trips was allocated a year in advance in most cases, so guess where the extra money is likely to go? Into admins pockets as "bonuses" from "discretionary funding."

Call the Kent school district and let them know how you feel about that: (253) 373-7000

When my kids were in El Paso it was the opposite. Gringos were discriminated.

My first thought is to follow the money. Who benefits from this decision? Do the kids raise all the money to do this?

'Dimensions of Diversity' ... that's pretty rich.

First and foremost is the ALMIGHTY GOD of Liberal PR. ALWAYS #1 is the feels and the looks at all cost - using children, dead or alive, born or unborn is a magnificent tool from above. Never forget that. The kids are just pawns in this quest for power and anti-Trump hysteria.

I guess we could ask are we really surprised? This is child's play for these people. They don't give a shit for the kids. The fact they broke the law the previous years tells us this.

This is an amazing story. I can't get over how baldfaced this decision is, and how they are very likely to completely get away with it.

Absolutely.

One reason the Trump election drove them to fits. So many years of getting away with it, no one asking questions, and BLAM some orange looking buffoon with bad fake hair and :ROFLMAO: a gaping unhinged, uncontrolled maw lands diapered ass first in their cake of domination and control. Surprise!
