It just so happened that the SECOND BFG on my truck started to blow off the tread at about 208th and I just rolledin there to have him throw my spare on. He tossed it on for free. I asked if he had an load rated Es/10plyand he surprisingly said yes.

I came back a couple days later and picked them up after looking/comparing the price of new ones.

The BFG KM2 T/A has kevlar lined sidewalls with extra plys that are great if you're going off road and worried about debris...

Les Schwab is second to none when it comes to customer service....

Can't count how many times they fixed a flat for free...

Even had my car in for an alignment, spent all the time getting everything hooked up..... Told me it was pretty much in spec and they didn't charge me....

You will pay more for their tires, but you're paying for their service/work ethic....

Schwab and Discount Tire will fix all flat tires for free, no matter where you bought them from.

I took my truck in to Schwab to get the brakes done.
115K miles and original disks and pads after 14 years.
Told them Seaview Chevy said I needed new brakes and had a broken 'spindle support bracket' or some shit.
Schwab did a complete brake check (free) and said they were fine, probably had another 30-50K miles left.
Nothing broken, recommended leaving them alone.

I suspect many shops would have sold me a comprehensive brake flush, new calipers, pads, and disks.

Schwab did find a bad wheel bearing that Seaview missed.

I understand that service ethic.

If you come to me for a service, we cost more than everyone else. You get the same equipment as the competitor will provide for less but, you get superior service from a company with deep enough pockets to do whatever it takes ensure your satisfaction at all costs.

But I still don't want to overpay for tires.

I shredded one BFG KM2 outside of Cheney/Spokane on the freeway/I5. The whole cap ripped off. Luckily it was on the rear and I have a flatbed so it only ripped off the tailpipe. If it would have been a front it would have ripped my whole fender up and tore out the headlight.


The second one the tread ripped like the first but I was just leaving the light so it didnt rip the whole cap off this time.

I run these on a normal rig and keep them at 60-80psi depending on if Im towing or not. Im not one to drive around on a half flat tire or hot potholes or speedbumps. Im a owner/operator and treat my equipment like so.

I have had several toyotasover the years that came with the BFG ATs and MTs and had lumps and shales and it always turned out to be a busted belt making a bulge.

Im done with them. I will not recommend them to anyone.



I know ALLOT of folks in the offroad community that are sponsored by them and the race tires they make are insanely HIGH quality. Its very SAD that the tires they give away for free are awesome, but the ones normal folks pay GOOD MONEY for are CRAP.

BFG A/T if you're looking for a tough tire that good off road without being too chunky to drive nice.
Michelin, nearly any of their LT offerings. Maybe not quite as tough as the carcass of the BFG but behave a little nicer.
After owning them... I'll never have nitto anything(but they do have a new generation now), toyo anything and I'll never buy Goodyear anything .
I've found the discoverers to be....meh
A couple of the general grabbers do OK.
Hankook dynapro seem pretty good too.
The toyos suck so bad it makes me angry. lol

I'm getting a consistent 50/50 opinion on the BFG. I'm glad I'm not in need and have time to keep checking things out.

I like the Nitto Terra Grapplers, best set I've owned on this truck.
Been wearing evenly for 3 years, first set to do so.
I don't even bother checking the pressure and tell the stealers oil changers not to touch them.
Never been stuck, and have been through some crazy terrain on hunting and camping trips, drive over a lot of curbs (long truck).
Little noisy, but a very smooth ride.
Pulled a few screws and nails out, never had one leak. Must be some really thick rubber.

I'll be buying another set when they wear out.

My experience with Terra grapplers was not as good. Hard, don't clear, useless off road.
88 toyota, regular cab short bed. Pretty light. Wear wasn't an issue. Heavier truck might have used them better.

How would a heavier truck had made a difference? Pressed the tread into the earth better?


Do you need a heavy load or heavier truck to take advantage of 10ply?

I prefer 2 ply for extra large loads.

I used to only go to Les Schwab for tires, but in the past 5 year or so their tire selection and upselling has really become horrible. I was down in Oregon a few weeks back and decided I would get new tires for wife's car while I was down there, so I could skip the sales tax. Punched in her size into Les Schwab's site, they only offered 4 different tires for her car, with the lowest price starting at about $140/ea.

Discount Tire? Offered 10+ different models of tires in her car's size. Went as low as $60/ea and the cheap ones were even very well rated tires that were clones of Falken designs.

Consequently Discount got my business. They even have their guys running like Les Schwab used to do. When I turned down their protection plan on the tires, after mentioning that I might have wanted it since it would be my wife driving the car, the counter guy even dropped the price on the tires so that the end cost came out the same.

Discount will also not throw a shit fit over mounting tires purchased through Tire Rack. Firestone will do it too. Les Schwab refused to do it at all the last time I called them about it, trying instead to get me to order the tires through them at a higher cost.

I don't know who took over Les Schwab since Les died but they are fucking up.

Discount tire hands down. I had a set of Hankook AT's on my old truck, great tires and lasted well over 50K. They still had life in them when i replaced them with Cooper Discoverer's with a nearly identical tread design, but the hankooks were a better tire in Rain and off road.
