General Grabber AT2. I asked Les Schwab if they could order them and they came in $400 less than Discount Tire. Tirerack.com and Discounttiredirect.com had competitive pricing but, one had a low stock and I wasn't interested in waiting for a shipment of tires to arrive at home from the other. Les Schwab had them the next day for me. I may get some for the YL's Forester so she can drive herself to elk camp.

It's time for mud tires. To sipe or not to sipe. That is the question.

I'm planning to get Federal Couragia mud tires for on an additional set of wheel for the remainder of the year and maybe into the early next year. Depends on if I'm hunting into next year and where. A friend continually says to get whatever mud tires decide on siped. Les Schwab dude at the store said don't because they will get chipped easier on the rocks. What's the collective say?

More edges on rock equal more chipping. Rain or Snow, Sipe is the way to go. Offroad it just presents more edges for damage.

Yeah kinda. Serious wheeling, yes sipe. More open tread is more traction. On a trail 20-30 days out of the year? No, don't. You'll decrease tread life by 30%+ with siping. Les Schwab makes money on siping, that's why they recommend it.

So you're saying tread lightly?

To have your tires siped, you would have to believe that the parolee making $13/hr cutting slits in your tires knows more than the engineers that designed the tires with a computer designed sipe pattern.

and Schwab's Wildcat TA's (affordable)

I siped for the wheeler (XJ/Wildcats) but I don't drive a gajillion miles a year.

The Generals are mostly fine for daily driving and primitive roads in dry and wet weather. I had them on my Silverado for a year before I sold it and they were fine during the hunting season. I didn't do any mudding with them since it was a 2wd truck. They've also been fine on the 4x4 f-150. It's a bigger size on this truck and it's likely a combination of differences attributing to more noticeable rocks being thrown. The Ford has an aluminum body and chrome running boards. The Silverado did not.

I decided to not get siping on the new mud tires and had them installed today.


Edit: As I said about the Generals, "mostly fine". One of them had leak. Once a week for about a month I had to fill it up. It took a moment to think I should take it in because I wanted to make sure it wasn't my driving. I frequent Capitol Forest and I believe the leaked came a sharp rock. It's about a two inch long slit near the middle of the tread. I could be wrong about the cause but, I did have a tire pop a quick leak in the forest soon after getting the truck. Those were OEM tires from Ford and I quickly sold them on OfferUp

I also got new tires on the YL's Forester. Back Country AT in 215/70R16. My plan was to have a set of the Generals put on so she can make it to camp and because she's considered essential personnel but, I learned they aren't snow rated for her size. The Back Country is, and because it's a regularly stocked tire, it seemed best for her needs.
