I'm exempt from half the crap, and I still think it's a bad idea...

White privilege? Didn't you get your card in the mail?
Seriously though.....
Definitions are important... Pay close attention to what is and is not a personal electronic device, and the exemptions. Things that would otherwise be personal electronics are redefined as NOT personal electronics when used for a specific purpose.

(b) "Personal electronic device" means any portable electronic
17 device that is capable of wireless communication or electronic data
18 retrieval and is not manufactured primarily for hands-free use in a
19 motor vehicle. "Personal electronic device" includes, but is not
20 limited to, a cell phone, tablet, laptop, two-way messaging device,
21 or electronic game.
"Personal electronic device" does not include
22 two-way radio, citizens band radio, or amateur radio equipment.

This is just more proof that all it is, is a revenue source.
How is it any less of a distraction to operate a CB, than it is to take a sip of coffee?
Or change stations on the radio... And there are radios and cupholders in every vehicle out there...

You typically don't have to look at the cb, and you can't spill hot CB on your lap

But I do with my Icom. We got about 100 channels on that, and if we transmit on the tactical channels...not good.

I have never seen anyone operate a CB, and NOT look at it, fiddle with it, etc...

Jeez man...I thought you were a professional electronics installer, and proud of your vehicles? Just lookit that spaghetti mess of wires, and that poor butchered dash! I've got a bag of zip ties out in the garage if you need bro.

So, when my hand went down the wife's shorts while driving to Wenatchee today, I could have gotten a ticket?

Only if you held it to your ear, I think.

? Talking about coming out of the radio? I have a pair of earbuds you see reflecting in the window, They were tossed up there and you can see it to the right of the control head and resting behind the control head.. The wiring to the right of the CH is the only reasonable access point, it's essentially 2 DB25 connectors, a HDDB15 connector, a mic, and ignition sense... Not the 2 wires for a CB :-p... Commercial/PS radios are different... But yeah, I could toss a zip tie on it....
