That was standard science class stuff when I was a kid. Never looked into the sun, just use a pin-hole "lens" to focus it a piece of paper for viewing.

Today's kids have to have "designer" eclipse glasses. Saw the news last night where they showed some for sale that had scratched plastic. Guess where the direct sunlight is going to come through and right into your retina.

I think I'll just watch everything go dark for a while and watch the TV reports of all the nitwits that paid thousands to go see "totality" in Oregon, etc. My Granddaughter starts college that day in Boise and the eclipse is supposed to be 99.5% that day. Classes are on delayed start that day, beginning at noon instead of 9 AM. My Daughter thinks a lot of students will just use the extra time to sleep in rather than watching the eclipse.

Nowadays you'll always see it better off of a HDTV recording on the nightly news than you can filming or watching on your own.
They will have a $200,000 camera set up at the perfect location, you won't.
Seattle area is a little too far North to get the perfect view anyhow.

I've been in to 2 different welding shops for supplies, and the both places had at least 2-3 calls for welding glasses during my 15 minute shopping time. People are frantic to find shades... meanwhile 10$ 12 packs are now going for $100 on sites like Craigslist and offer up.

I hope it's cloudy.
