For those unfamiliar, the Southern Poverty Law Center is an organization that tracks "hate groups." They also openly state that their mission is to destroy these hate groups.
Now if, if that were truly limited to legitimize hate groups like the Klan or the Panthers that would be admirable. However they have lost their way and in essence turned into a weapon of the left labeling anyone who disagrees with liberal politics as a hater or "exteremist" (the second label if they can't find a 'hate' label to stick on).

Among other things they:
-have grossly inflated their salaries and expenditures on lavish vacations, company functions and grotesque lobbying which calla into question their tax status
-are hiding vast sums of money in offshore accounts in tax-havens
-ignore truly racist groups like La-Raza, BLM, BP (not to be confused with NBPP)
-label anyone who disagrees with punishing apostasy, oppression of women, female genital mutilation or other aspects of Sharia Law as an "Islamophobe"
-label conservative organizations that believe in traditional marriage as "homophobic" despite giving a pass to Islamic organizations that believe that way
-label most 2nd amendment organizations as "extremist hate groups" and assume ALL militias are "white supermacists," even ones with non-white leaders...

Etc.

It was notable that even during the Obama administration the FBI dropped their association with the SPLC due to their increasing politicization (although some supporters argue they just got kicked off a website, it actually went deeper than that). Also, some people are beginning to fight back against the SPLC's labeling and their legal bills for defemation lawsuits are starting to stack up with several high profile losses in courts and now a mountain of settlements they are beginning to grudgingly choose due to those losses.

I always figured they were a shakedown outfit like Jesse and Al.

Even though Jihadwatch does a great job at calling out and prites ting female genital mutilation, honor killings, and other horrific elements of Sharia Law that all decent people can agree are wrong, the SPLC, with help from George Soros, initiated an email campaign to get PayPal to cut off Jihadwatch.org's PayPal fundraising capabilities.

Interesting piece that even the Slimes was forced to publish by a former Muslim who speaks out against groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda on how the SPLC is targeting anyone who dares to speak out against Islamic extremism, even people who were murdered for it.

While I don't agree with all of her assertions, she raises some interesting points that the death-toll from Islamic terrorism has been infinitely higher than other hate groups, the SPLC is not only silent on it, they attack anyone who calls attention to the body count and oppression of women and apostates.

It's pretty terrible. And yet they deny it. Fascinating watching how far they will push it. Some liberals actually believe they have the "right" (and obligation) to shut down some opinions, some speech. Hate speech must go!

In spite of ABCBSNBCNN reporting on 'hate speech", there IS NO hate speech. There is offensive speech, which is WHY we have the 1st Amendment. SC has held forever that "offensive speech is protected speech".

The Supreme Court case that most defines this issue is Brandenburg vs. Ohio. The operative concept is imminent danger occurring now.
