Agreed the great depth will deter anything but robotic exploration. That's the case for most naval war wrecks as clearly mentioned in my other post.
In the case of the HMS Exeter, the wreck was discovered around 2007 sometime lying at about 200 feet depth off the coast of Indonesia. When a survey was done in 2016, it was discovered nearly the entire wreck had been illegally plundered for scrap. God only knows what happened to the remains of the sailors that went down with that ship and the several others also plundered in the same general area.

Be sure to watch the USS Indianapolis - Live from the Deep on KCTS at 10pm. The show turned out pretty good.
