Houston could receive record 50 inches of rain over the next couple days.
Gonna get worse before it gets better.

Our thoughts and prayers for the victims.

There's a lot of misery on the South Texas Gulf Coast around Corpus Christi where Harvey made landfall. I have to say I'm shocked at how bad the Houston area has been hammered in the last day.

The storm's winds strengthened rapidly over the Gulf of Mexico in the days before landfall then it weakened really quickly afterwards. But the rain has been torrential. Initial estimates were that the affected Gulf Coast would receive three feet of rainfall in three or four days but it's been much worse than that.

Here in Austin area we're about 200 air miles from landfall. It's been pretty windy but no more than 20-30 mph and very wet though nothing like the areas closer in. Biggest hazard here is flash flooding on low-lying stream crossings where folks underestimate water depth and try to drive through not realizing the water depth or danger.

Here's a view of our local weather forecast at the moment:

Texas weather is crazy in general. Before Harvey we were at 43 days this Summer over 100 degrees. This was earlier this week.

Well, considering most of Tejas used to be underwater, I think Mother Nature is simply trying to reclaim that horse shit state.

Any amount of rain in the flat state of Texas is going to flood everything.

Not to say that that state is flat but when I was Drag Racing there was a long running joke/saying about Texas that goes like this....

I wouldn't say that Texas was necessarily flat but, If you stood on a 6 pack of beer in El Paso you could see the tip of the flagpole at city hall in Shreveport.
