If you had a collection of firearms...

Mon Aug 28, 2017 6:34 am

...exceeding 90 rifles and handguns from a relative who recently passed away, what would be the best way to do this, post-I-594.
The widow is in Spokane.
Auction house?
Pawn shop? (probably the worst price for some valuable rifles)

sell them ones self so get the most return.

If you want a lump sum just ask Steve, he works at Boeing and buys weird stuff. HA

consign a few at a time at a local shop. you get money and you support a local shop.

keep em, shoot em

First step would be to document what you have and come up with values. I'm guessing the blue book would be the easiest way to find those.

I think that would help decide which route to take.

From the Waguns CoC:
"5) Compliance with Laws - All WaGuns users are expected to comply with all local, state and federal laws..."

Personally, I think I might clear some trunk space and drive to Spokane... quietly...

I that was me I would sell the common ones locally, meeting at one good gunshop for a three hour time slot every saturday/sunday (cuts down logistics). Anything rare, unusual, or expensive would go on GB.

Blue book values are all but useless, use gunbroker completed auctions.

You're simply trying to sell all 90 of them?

I'd probably consign them at a gun store, especially since it sounds like you're the one doing the legwork and it's so far away from home.

I guess I should have been more clear.
I am going out there Sep 15th with 2 2017 blue books and cataloging and photographing them all.
I have experience selling collections, but not one this size and BEFORE I-594....

She does not want to sell them onsie, twosie, to a store. It's all or nothing.

Yeah, I think that's the route we'll take. There is a Cabelas nearby too. I didn't think of that...I was thinking an estate auction house or something?

There are people/businesses who will buy entire collections. It really depends on whether or not the firearms are common or have some collector value. Once an inventory is available you can make a few calls.

From what I've heard, Cabela's will buy them outright but won't give you a very good price. Going the consignment route will (I believe) net you more money, while still eliminating most of the hassle.

Buddy of mine passed a few years ago. His brother sold some of his collection through a gun shop close to Olympia. They charged 10% per firearm. They did all the work and all the transfers. I thought they were more than fair and the brother got 90% of each firearms value.

These were Colts and Winchesters.

I can get you the name and number of the shop if you're interested.

Old Colts and Winchesters will bring in foot traffic as well.

They give you something like 2/3 or 3/4 of the book value. Can actually be ok as sometimes the book value is higher than market.

We charge 10% on consignment. Send us the list once you have and we'd be happy to review it and advise.
