Based on what I saw it's very likely the driver could not lock the door, once it was open and the handle was being held engaged by the perp there's no way to lock it even if you shut it while the handle is held open.

Too bad one of his legs didn't get caught under the rear wheel. Would have been a real tragedy had that happened.

That's kind of what I saw too. When the car stopped I feel as if he was getting up attempting to free himself, not continue his carjacker ways.
