Hi folks, Last week, a good friend of mine was attacked and stabbed in the chest. He's currently in the ICU at Harborview struggling to recover. John is a well-known, well-respected, and very much loved fly fishing guide here in WA. He also works as a radiology nurse when he's not guiding. John has always been devoted to helping others in need and has been active with devoting his time and skills to programs that help out wounded vets and at-risk youth. He also served his time in the Army as a combat medic. Now, he needs some help of his own. Here's a link to his GoFundMe to help out with his quickly stacking medical expenses. https://www.gofundme.com/helpjohnhicksHe is expected to recover, but it is going to be a long difficult road for him. He has a loving wife and 3 awesome young boys. More to the point here, my main reason for making this post is to draw attention to a fundraiser that I am organizing in John and his family's behalf. As many of you know, I used to work as a brand ambassador/Master of Whisk(e)y for Diageo. My specialty was hosting and guiding whisk(e)y tastings and dinners and general whisk(e)y educational presentations. I am currently working at The Flat Iron Grill in Issaquah, WA. We have incredible food and one of the largest whiskey libraries in the nation. My boss has graciously agreed to let me use our private event space at the restaurant to host a whiskey tasting/dinner. Below are the details: When: Tuesday, September 26th. 7:00pm Where: The Flat Iron Grill in Issaquah, WA How much: $100 donation per person (You can always donate more, if you wish). I will be donating some very high end whiskeys from my private collection for the tasting. The Flat Iron will be providing food. (It'll be good). We will sample several high end single malts, (Irish, Scottish, Japanese), bourbons, etc.I'll take everyone through a guided tasting of these whiskeys and show you all how to get the most out of the spirit, plus discuss the history, production, and differences between the different styles. I figure payment can be made to my PayPal account and I will then donate ALL proceeds to John's GoFundMe. If you would like to attend, reply here to this thread or shoot me a PM. Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing some of you at the event. Kind Regards, -Breck

I feel for your friend.
I want to know if the perpatrator has been ID'd or caught.

I want to know if the perpatrator has been ID'd or caught. Yes. He's in jail awaiting trial. Bail set at $75,000. He's being charged with 1st Degree Assault. (Why it's not Attempted Murder baffles me. He stabbed my friend in the heart. He was trying to kill him).

I know John through his wife, Sheryl. Sheryl is one of the reasons my wife pursued a career in nursing. They are an amazing family, and I can't wait to see John get better.
Please count me in for (2) Seats at the table, Joelle and I will be there to help support John and his family.

Hopefully the Prosecutor will realize the error in charges and up them if he were to see the medical evidence in a more thorough manner.

Hmmm, food and whiskey for a good cause. Yeah, I'm almost positive I'll be there. Had to miss the last one, don't want to miss this one!

Is this a trick question? Hell yeah, I'll be there. This sounds like a no-brainer!

Holy crap, what a night! The best part was that John was able to be there, his recovery is going great.
First off; The Flat Iron Grill. What an amazing place. The food was outstanding, the staff was awesome and did I mention the food? If you haven’t gone there, do. Joelle and I are already planning another date night to make the drive up.
Second; The host. Breck is the man. Not only in the compassion he shows for others, but in the way he utilizes his skills and knowledge to benifit others. His knowledge of spirits was amazing. I was able to learn about what I was tasting, see the color, smell the flavors and enjoy what I am sipping on.
Thank you Breck for putting on such a great event for such a good person and his family.
I’ll add some photos here in a bit.
“Sláinte” (means cheers/good health)... something else I learned last night.

Haha, a big +1 to everything that Dan and Jacy said above.
Yeah, it was a fantastic evening by any measure, and the fact that it was for a good cause made it even better. Breck ROCKED it, he’s an entertaining MC in addition to being a wealth of knowledge about anything even remotely connected to whiskey.

Thanks for coming, guys. My sincere hope is that everyone had as good a time as I did.
Being able to do what I do best is very rewarding for me. When it happens to take place in a room full of friends, for a good cause, it makes it even better.
