I'm 266. JS. I need to get with LC, and get with his program. Not just for jumping, but for general health. Maybe I can go solo with a tandem chute? icon_eek

Do they still operate out of Lake Kapowsin area too?
The original owner was my jump master. I saw her and her husband at a Private Jet open house at the Museum of Flight about 7 years ago.

The original Kapowsin DZ closed a couple years after they bought the Shelton DZ. I am not sure who owns it now. My dad had over a hundred jumps and his C license that he started while it was Blue Sky.

FYI, that lone big oak tree in the original DZ? Well on one of my jumps there was this dude who let his jump book expire so he had to do a static line jump with dummy rip cord to prove he can still do the "ARCH, LOOK, REACH, PULL" exercise. Well, he got 3 out of 4, he didn't LOOK and opened his reserve instread of pull the dummy rip cord.

Now with two chutes fighting each other, he was close to a roman candle. Fortunately he remembered to cut away his main chute and ride the 25 ft round emergency chute down safely....safetly into the ONLY tree on the field, that big ass oak tree!

Fire dept had to come get him down. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I remember my static line at Blue Sky. every thing was great, hung off the wing strut and let go. Line pulled and had a clean chute. Instructor on the ground talked me through some turns (one way radio, he could talk to me) and said have fun, while reminding me to stay away from the Prison (Shelton doesn't like flyovers lol). Basically just stayed over the DZ, having fun with sweeping turns.

A while later, the Instructor came back on and helped me get lined up for landing.. then crackle, crackle, crackle... then silence... I had no clue that the battery died, so here I am gliding towards the DZ awaiting further instruction. I am coming in hot, no quarter flare, just hands on the mains, lined up for the "X". As I am approaching about 30' from the ground and about 30mph, I see people waiving on the ground. At this time, I realize that I have not heard from the instructor and I am cookin' towards the ground. All I hear is this faint voice from the ground yelling "FLARE, FLAAAAAARE". I pull down those handles as hard as I can, seconds before my feet hit the ground. It made little difference as I lifted my legs to do an ass landingand skidded to a stop, using my legs to slow me down. I should have broken both my legs, but I think from the years of downhill skiing I was able to take some shock (thanks Lower Exterminator at Crystal).

What a fucking rush.

You had radio comms with the ground?
Lucky!
We had a big arrow that the ground instruction would move around depending on which way the ground wind was blowing.
Some of us flared too soon, some too late! LOL!
I came in on my ass once with my legs straight out in front of me. I was picking ants out of my butthole for a week!

So where does a guy go for the one day solo/static line jump?

I have a friend that competes and IIRC he said that that is a thing of the past......legal stuff.

I did my first solo/static line at Snohomish Parachute Center it was a 4 hour course and you jumped at like 2 in the afternoon.....

and my subsequent jumps were at Old Kapowsin. I passed all the next 3 practice jumps where that JM watches you pull your own

dummy cord but chickened out when it was my time to pull the cord no static line...... :runforthehills:

I do have friends that want to try the static line......well, lets just say they say they do.

They don't do static anymore, it's all freefall.

You're just scared. It's okay to admit it. I had three friends bail on me today. They missed out!

From today.
