I agree with you.

Not sure where Hollywood got their suppressor sound effect, it had to originate somewhere right? I have NEVER heard a suppressor that sounds like the Hollywood sound effect.

A blank through a silencer?

Or just someone's, now immortalized, fart?

Not any blank I've ever heard. With or without a suppressor.

What a bullshit video. :angryfire:

It's not a question of what kind of sound it makes, like pfffft versus bvvvvt versus pew-pew or whatever. It's a matter of VOLUME. To me, when I hear a silencer in the movies it's extremely quiet; you could shoot 1000 rounds next to my ear and it wouldn't hurt.

Real-life silencers aren't like that, especially for 9mm and .45 pistols like they showed in the video. Notice that in the video, they kept their ear-pro on for most of the suppressor shooting . . . that tells you something.

I like Mythbusters, but they fucked up this one. :facepalm2:

Called OSHA

how does there testing not show real world testing? looked correct to me.

Rumor has it the sound Hollywood used was from a old metal wipe suppressor downrange

Oh sure, I think they tested real equipment and they're getting real dB readings.

So what we're doing hear is comparing real suppressor sounds to movie suppressor sounds. It's really hard to compare what you hear in real life to what you hear on video, as video doesn't reproduce reality.

For example, shoot an unsuppressed gun and stand next to it without hearing protection. OUCH! It hurts, and it damages your body. Listen to the same thing on a video, and it's no big deal.

So in this video, they're shooting with hearing protection on, recording it, then comparing the recorded suppressor sound to the recorded movie suppressor sound. Yeah, they sound similar.

However, the PERCEPTION you get from a movie suppressor is very, very different from the REALITY of a suppressor. That's what matters. That's why non-gunners think that silencers go "pfft pfft' and those of us that own them know that the reality is very different than that.

Agreed. I try to explain that to people who have no real World experience. The General Public thinks you can make a Howitzer sound like the Movies.
Those that have been around real suppressor's know the difference, though it's hard to explain to a non gunner or those that have not experienced what they sound like firsthand.

Shitty conclusion from sketchy science.
