One of those sunspot groups caused an Earth directed CME, impact expected tomorrow, might cause some communications issues, but not strong enough to be an 'electrical-grid killer'.

The whole PNW is light up right now. I heard that the fires in Oregon just jumped into Washington this afternoon. Had ash all over my cars in Oly this morning, but it's even worse in the Shelton area.

I have friends and family in Montana and it's pretty bad over there.

This was taken in Billings two days ago.

The bottom photo was taken two days ago at my Aunt's house in Butte Montana. The above was taken this last winter.

Just pretend you are in a smoke filled cocktail lounge back in the 80's and it's all good.

I bought a 20"x20" Honeywell FPR 9 air filter, for $18 from Home Depot. It is rated to filter Smoke.

I stuck it to the back of a 20" Box Fan. No tape or anything, the air holds it in place.

I put it in my room, and let it filter air all day. Then last night, I stuck the fan/filter in the window, to blow in cool filtered air. This is the filter this morning. Soooo damn glad I bought the filter.

The smoke can make for some beautiful sunsets, though. This was taken from my parent's house south of Missoula a few years ago. The smoke was so bad that sometimes visibility was less than a mile. The smoke cleared up enough for me to get a series of sunset photos that were really pretty. No special effects or filters were used.
