Still can't believe this. Largest hack in history.

And the irony... these people are the credit monitors, the people you use to check your credit to protect yourself. When you get ID theft, businesses provide you with free crefit monitoring through THESE PEOPLE. So who are we supposed to check our credit through now? The other 2 big ones? How are they any less vulnerable?

Definitely not the largest hack in history (not by a long shot), but one with more potential for damage than most.

I'll bet Zuckerberg is pissed, since it's taking away attention from FB's whole "Russians bought advertising space before the election!" story. You're a tech company and you're just NOW figuring out that, 12 months ago, someone purchased ad space on your site? :rofl9: Let me guess, your data analytics person used to be in charge of security at Equifax.

Upside is, there are so many victims involved it will take a long time for the fraudsters to get around to you.

I don't think it's the largest, but that is irrelevant. It's huge and the irony is even larger. WTF are these clowns using for security? A dead cat?? Shit. Asholes.

Shit and assholes might indeed have been a more effective defense.

So I guess the linkedin hack, ebay hack, and Melissa Virus were technically bigger?

I stand corrected.

Did they get the credit reports and all the history on them? Or just the names/SSN?

The Yahoo! hack involved more than 1 billion accounts. There have been others in the several-hundred-million realm.

Here it's more important to look at the numbers from a different perspective. The number of credit files stolen was 140 million or so. US population is somewhere around 320 million. A little extrapolation, and an assumption that very few people probably have more than 1 credit file (not the case with Yahoo! and others, since a lot of people have multiple e-mail accounts) shows that almost every adult in America -- anyone with a credit file -- is part of this.

ETA: So far they're saying that names, DOBs, addresses, driver's license numbers, and some credit card numbers were stolen.

Bowling for dollars.

My work is done here. Did all my invoicing, released all the holds. Take the trash out and watch some football.

Daughter is making shrimp dumplings. I'm hungry already!

I don't even care. I've received multiple notices that my info has been hacked over the last few years, companies will need to find other ways to verify identity.
