Apparently, I wasn't imagining things when I kept seeing the price of avacados going through the roof...

Demand has increased substantially, and the crop yield this year has been pretty shit, half of what it normally is, leading to higher prices of avocados.

CNN says the popularity of guacamole has a large part to play. The average wholesale case of avocados went from less than $35 in January to almost $85 today, higher than its ever been, and experts say it will go even higher..

Fuck. Now I need some guacomole...

We always have 'Cado in the kitchen when in season. We have seen the prices go up, but don't care. We love it.

Good point! The grapefruit and lime crops (key limes) out of Florida are huge also. Expect the citrus fruitolypse.

I grew up with avocado trees in my yard. Parents thought it nuts that people bought avocados. My great uncle (James (Jim) Bacon, my grandma's brother) was a botanist who specialized in tissue culture of avocado trees in the early days. He was trying to make a more frost resistant tree. Which he did, but the fruit is not the oil richness we love from a Hass.
